bucket choices?

Anyone have a double bucket and actually use it? Right now I just put supplies in it so I can lug them around. It works quite well. Is your bucket special, or is it your run of the mill cheapo discount store bucket?

I use 5 gallon buckets that fire extinguisher chemicals came in. Highly durable. Holds a lot of soap solution, Strong enough to make a good seat.

Hey! So do I!

I work part time at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. When the academy has certain courses that involve using dry chemical fire extinguishers, we go through a lot of these buckets. The liquid capacity is 5 gallons, the dry chem weight is 50 pounds per bucket.

A couple of 5 gallon buckets that once contained concrete repair powder for me.

While I had never really thought about it, doesn't everyone use a bucket like this? :)

Hey:

Why do people need a 5 gallon bucket??? You only need one ounce of GC Car Wash per gallon and I never use up all the water anyway with one wash. Plus, if you are doing multiple cars, you are going to change the water anyway between cars.....oh well, just my opinion.....I have the 2-2.5 gallon bucket that was 2.99 at Autozone....Target has some nice big A%$ buckets.....my GF is opening a dollar store and she has some buckets for, well, a dollar!!! (actually $1.07):D

I just use plain white 5 gallon buckets, purchased them new so they had no "pre-use". I prefer white because it allows me to easily see if there are any dirt particles in the wash water that need to be removed. They are much harder to see in colored buckets, so if you can go with white!! :up

My choice had to do with availablity, price, (free), and the fact that they came with a lid.

As far as the amount of car wash, I probably only use an ounce or so in about 3 gallons of water in the 5 gallon bucket anyway.

For wheels, tires, and wheelwells, I use a five gallon bucket with a pouring spout (not a "regular" 5-gallon one) mounted on a "bucket buggy" (caster-equipped base).

For the rest of the car, I use a pair of yellow rectangular 6 gallon buckets with casters from Griot's. I have an indicator in the rinse bucket to help differentiate between them. After 20 years of using "normal" buckets, I find I like these much better. I do NOT use the "brush rest", though. They are sorta pricey, but I've seen the buckets themselves at Home Depot and in other catalogues for less than Griot's (no surprise). The casters, however, are harder to find and are rather expensive wherever you get them (but still well worth it).

I find the regular 5 gallon buckets to be too narrow and too deep for my liking; I often had to reach down into them beyond my wash glove cuff. I prefer a wider, more shallow bucket (although I have to dump the rinse-water one more often). And I LOVE having the buckets on casters.

When you put the car wash in small bucket, it never seems to get enough water in it before the suds overflow. Not a problem with the five gallon bucket. Actually use about 2.5 gallons of water. Using the two bucket method your rinse bucket has a lot more water to rinse it. Use a third bucket and fill enough to where you can lift it, pour onto the car and you have sheeting like none other.

Yep ! Totally nailed :xyxthumbs

I use several 5 gallon white buckets. Prehaps I should get myself some chicken wire?

Get some heavy galvanized chicken wire and make a "tub" out of it that fits in the bottom of your bucket. It should stand up 2 to 3 inches from the bottom.

The dirt goes down out of the mitt, the mitt doesn't touch it and you have less opportunity to pick it back up and scratch the clear.

...this has worked like a champ, the dirt is heavy and goes down, you have the mitt far enough above the dirt you don't usually create enough agitation of the water to mix it back into the soap solution.

for my HD i use a 3 gallon bucket thats black and i put a HD orange 3mm pinstripe on it to match by truck :D Also did the same for my black detailing toolbox that i keep all my zaino and stuff in :p

How expensive is it?

Well, Zymol dosent actually sell a bucket by itself. It does come in a $60 package though. Here's what it contains:

8.5 oz of Clear wash shampoo - $16.00

Sponge - $3.60

Synthetic Chamios - $7.50

Caddy Bag w/ tools and Zymol Logo - $15.00

That comes out to $42.10, so the bucket would cost what ever is left right?

How about

$17.90 :scared

No thanks. :up

I use 2 green Volvo buckets I bought at the dealership for $5 each.

I use two buckets, one black and the other white, so I remember which is the wash bucket and which is the rinse bucket. Both are 5 gallon and both are used exclusively for car washing.

I got the solution to the suds problem (had the same thing happen to me)

Fill the bucket half full with water, then add the suds.....spray for another 2-3 seconds, and VOILA....you have good suds with minimal overflow....I would have to agree that it is probably much easier with a big bucket....but if you don't have one:D , then this method works okay!
