Well it’s not often that I get to work on Classic cars but when I do I love looking into the past. Most classic car owners I know have OCD about their cars that put their attention to detail sometimes on par with mine, maybe more. This car was given to the owner as a wedding present and has only seen about 700 miles in the last 20 years. The car is a 1964 Studebaker, a rare breed as there was only 15000 of these cars made in 1964, not many considering production runs were around 90000 the year after. Everything is original from the paint to the interior, and some of the wear and tear that it accumulated over the years.
The Process was a little more lengthy than a regular car as I had to take my time with the engine to clean it up a bit and not soak the old wiring and other sensitive parts. The interior vinyl was scrubbed with a combination of a toothbrush type brush and the AG cleaning pad and microfiber towels. It was decided that there would be no paint correction for this car, just a real good clean up and some paint cleaner and wax.
The Process
The Wash
The car was washed with Proshiled Wash and Wax and the 2BM with an uber Sponge
The tires and wheels saw AG CWC and a flagged tip green bristle brush
The Roof was washed then cleaned with ARO and a wet mf towel
The engine was cleaned very carefully using AM 777 and a swiss in wax brush and literally dribbling water on the cleaner to rinse. Wiped down with a MF towel.
The Interior
The Interior was carefully cleaned with AM 777 diluted about 30 to 1 and scrubbed with a toothbrush and AG cleaning pad. I made sure to clean around the seams in the stitching and remove to 40+ years of grime in the seams.
The glass was cleaned with Sprayway Glass cleaner
The carpet and upholstery were extracted with an Aztec Hot Rod and pre treated with AM carpet and upholstery cleaner
The floor stain was cleaned with a body shop paint prepping solution
The seat stain was cleaned using 3m adhesive remover
The Exterior Final
Was first prepped with Worlds Best Wax Surface Cleanse
The paint then saw a good coat of Worlds Best Wax Collectors Series
The Roof was treated with 303 Protectant
The tires received CG Liquid Extreme Shine and wiped to cut some of the shine
The Before
Nasty stain in the carpet
Here’s a great stain on the seat, yuck
AG CWC doing its thing
The bottom is clean the top is dirty hope you can see the difference
A little treat under the seat
Well the afters don’t really do the justice of the car, and the owner was in a hurry to go somewhere so I snapped pics as much as I could fit in.
Total time was 4 hours. Thanks for looking
