Broken windshield

I have two rather large splits running in either direction across the length of my windshield. My families experience with Subaru glass has always been that when replaced with factory glass another split usually occurs within six months, without fail. At this point I throw myself on the mercy of the board, please oh please, give me some direction. Who have you had good experiences with regarding replacement glass? National chains, local guys, whoever, just help me know what to look for and what to run away from!

Whatever you do don't use safelite. They tend to use cheap glass.



I use an outfit called quality glass (they have a site online and service a large area). They can either get you a factory piece of glass or a replacement that meets or exceeds the OEM specs. If the job is done right it should hold up fine, and the installer should stand behind it 100%.



Whatever you do don't go the dealer. They just sub it out to a glass outfit and mark up the total to make a small profit. The cost between replacement and factory glass usually isn't that much. Again you are paying for the labor.
 
Gotcha, stay away from Safelite. Wasn't planning on the dealership anyways, they always wash my car for me.

In Florida, insurance companies have to replace broken windshields for free.....



Allstate sent out some random glass company to replace the glass on my '00 ford expedition and I couldn't tell the difference from the OEM glass

I'm in the same situation (need to have my OEM windshield replaced). If I recall correctly what a few of the local guys have said, PPG makes replacement glass for the Subies, and that seems to have held up well for them. And, unlike so many other mfrs. where the OEM glass is better than a replacement, Subie OEM glass sucks so bad you're better off with damn near anything aftermarket.

Whats wrong with safelite? I have their glass and its held for 8 years now. I though all glass replacement comp must meet or surpass the oem standards?

Thanks, I'll ask around and find out who uses PPG glass. Subaru glass seems to be nothing more than a cruel joke.

you are absolutely right, subie glass is pretty bad, i have a few chips in the wrx I am thinking of getting a new one anyways, i was leaning towards ppg
