Broke my 7424

As a birthday gift two years ago, I got the original 7424. I've used it on two cars total, and on the third car, (tonight) it broke. the shaft that holds the counterweight to the body of the polisher sheared in two. in fairness, it could very well have been my fault for applying too much pressure. i'm sure it could be repaired, but is it even worth it for the price of the XP or g110? I never was really that impressed with the power behind the 7424, and i'd love to have a flex, but i can't really justify spending three times as much money on something i'll use twice a year. thoughts between the g110 and the xp? i'm sure the topic has been beaten to death...

I have been using the XP for the last 6 months (since it came out) IME I really dont find it to be a big improvment over the 7424. I'd say wait for more reviews once the G110 V2 comes out, so far it looks like a winner.

I just recieved my replacements XP's for my older PC 7424's. I have been using my 7424's for years, but I thought I would turn some fresh machines and flip the older ones.

I have a question for gmblack3a did you have to change your counter balance to accept a larger 6.5 pad or do you use smaller pads on your XP....

Thanks

I use the larger counterweight as I'm using 6.5" pads on my XP

I absolutely notice the additional low-end grunt of the XP vs. the old 7336/7424 - much harder to bog it down.

The G110 v2 sounds good - I'm just not convinced about the durability.

Wow, guess I'm not the only one. Though mine lasted longer than 2 cars. I did about 10 cars before the thing snapped. It was fixed for free under warranty though

I guess I lucked out. I took it to an authorized service center and they're fixing it for free even though it's 2 years old. I'm glad it's being repaired, but I was kind of wanting to pick up one of the newer, more powerful DA's out there. Oh well, at least I'm not out any cash.

Sell it and use the money for the newer thing. Used PC's still fetch pretty good cash!

Buy a Makita. I did and I kept my PC for plastic panels and stuff. Never looked back since I was using the PC like a rotary to begin with lol

That's great news. Good to know that they stand behind their products like this. I'm surprised that it broke in the first place. These guys are pretty darn dependable. I've had mine for what seems like forever and it just keeps going....

As for a more powerful alternative, I am looking at the Griots new DA, which looks to be substantially more powerful than my PC (which does bog down on me on occasion when applying pressure).
