Brinkmann substitute...?

Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a light that I could use for quick spot checks while I'm working. I'd like to get a Sun Gun but that idea was quickly shot down by the Mrs.

I'd like to get this locally and saw that Canadian Tire had it at one point but I can't seem to find it. However, I noticed that they did have one under a different brand called "Noma". The light seems to be exactly the same in construction but does it deliver the same results?

I'll have to find the light at the store to confirm. According to the specs it mentions xenon bulbs but the thing that throws me off is the fact that it states LED whereas the Brinkmann doesn't.

Specs:

*

Noma Xenon/LED rechargeable spotlight

*

Switch easily from xenon bulb to LED

*

Xenon bulb for extreme high-intensity beam

*

White LED for up to 80 hours of run time

*

On/off trigger switch with lock button

*

Lightweight, super bright, compact

I recently bought a Brinkman just to see what all the hooplah is about. IME it's not *nearly* as good as my $25 incandescent trouble lights.

The SunGun is good for things that I simply cannot see under any other artificial light, but for general "swirl spotting" I still like my cheap old incandescent trouble lights the best.

Of course, the real trick to using *any* of these lights is to be working in an otherwise dark environment.

Thanks for the tidbit Accumulator. My garage setup is tight and the lighting bites. I'd like to upgrade and totally finish up the man cave but I'm thinking of holding off for another couple of years before I can grab a bigger place with at least a 2 car garage.

I'm having a hard time seeing my work and with all of the rules at my condo complex I'm not "allowed" to detail in my driveway where I can get all the light that I need.

I installed some fluorescent light strips around the front of the car but the rear of the garage doesn't permit any usuable space that I can install more. I have the 2 halogen lights that seems to be the standard around here but with the tight spacing around the car I can't move them around with me.

Perhaps I'm just SOL but I was hoping to find some kind of solution that allows me to see the beautiful swirls, and hologramming as I work around the car. Moving the car in and out of the garage as I go is also out of the question because of a 2nd vehicle in the driveway. We also have annoying neighbours that report anything that breaks the "rules" so I can't park the 2nd car on the road.

I thought getting my first home 1 year ago with a garage would be a blessing so that I could go to town with my detailing habits but it seems as though it is more of a roadblock than anything.

Yeah, think long-term :xyxthumbs

Given the constraints, I'd just get hand-held lights.

The SunGun is OK for holograms (at least significant ones...I'm gradually getting better at spotting them with it) but yeah, it's pricey. It's really the only option here though and I'll warn you in advance that the battery life is just *awful*..it's always recharging

For other marring, I'd go with the incandescent. Spend some time figuring out how to use it and it might be the best ~$25 you spend on this stuff.

Heh heh, yeah...might sound like the tail wagging the dog to some people, but for our current (and last! At least I hope..) house, the ability to put up a proper detailing shop was essential. Previously, I always had to rent/own a commercial building.

Thanks again for the info. One day (hopefully sooner than later) I will find a house that can satisfy the urges.
