Brand new rabbit, how to care for?

I just picked up an 08 rabbit, reflex silver. Opted for the clear bra from the dealership.

I'm coming from an 04 sentra in black, which was a nightmare to keep clean and free of swirls.

VW paint in my experience is much more durable, and I'm hoping the silver color will hide some flaws.

Any recommendations on keeping my car swirl and stain free? Do I need to worry about salts/dirt creeping underneath the clear bra at all, do I need to clean the bra with anything special?

Any good dash cleaners that won't dry out the material?

I want to start off on the right foot with this car.

Thanks!

As far as the paint and clear bra is concerned, as long as the installer does it correctly, there should be no worries on dirt getting under the bra; this will only happen if it starts to peel back from the paint.

Dash board - use 303 or Sonus Cockpit detailer. Those are what I think are the best out there.

When we just bought my wife's silver CR-V, I sealed it with 4 coats of Ultima Paint Gaurd and plopped some Zymol Titanium over that...I made sure the dealership didn't prep it (since their would be swirls if they did). I'm swirl free and still happy! The biggest thing will be how you wash, but even over time you are going to get swirls and will need to polish them out. But silver is a good color to hide the blemishes (IMO)

I just purchased a reflex silver VW as well (03 Golf) and either 1. The dealer did a great job on the detail or 2. These cars have really hard clear coats because I have almost no swirling

I think you will definitely enjoy detailing the silver over black, that is for sure!

What color floor mats do you have? From my one week experience the grey mats are a pain to keep clean...I bought a set of black ones and hear many people opt for the Monster Mats

My gf has an 03 jetta in blue, and the exterior has a ton of scuffs and scratches, but the paint definately feels a lot harder than the sentra.

I have the rubber mats, which I believe are the monster mats. I took the car up to northern NH the first week, and it got very muddy. Sprayed the mats down and they look like new.

What's the general concensus on best mits/cloths to wash with? Sonus seems to have everything a person would need, so I might go with that.

'Just wanted to post that you should check out the forum VW Rabbit Owners Club • VOLKSWAGEN Rabbit • Golf • GTI • TDI / Diesel Besides having a strong following of VW owners there, is some good posting and something there that is just up your alley. \r\n\r\nThere is a section on that forum dedicated to cleaning/care of the VW Rabbit. While most of the information is generic there is a poster by the handle Cleanest Rabbit who is a sponser. Within the \"Washing\" (abbreviated) sub forum he has a thread stickied to the top about how to care for a brand new Rabbit. Pretty extensive and is linked to his/her own forum Detailing University (or close to that). \r\n\r\nI would link you but I cannot access either forum at work. I hope that helps and will try to link later.'

If you have a Home Depot near you I would go with their $2 grout sponges. They are the best wash mitts IMO and for $2 you can buy a few for designated purposes (Wheels, side skirts, body)
