Ground clearance? What's that?

Heh heh, I suspect your area is a bit more accommodating than mine is in this regard.

It struck a nerve with me because with the last 'vette I had (Mallett C5), I had so many "just can't go there" issues that I basically couldn't drive it around like a normal car, couldn't even get into local gas stations no matter what my speed/approach angle.

Haven't heard anything back from StopTech, so decided to give the Evapo-rust a shot. It works real well, but the bolts have to be submerged for it to work. I tried applying a small amount on the head of the bolt, but nothing happened. The bolt only needed to be submerged for about an hour. After rinsing under water, there was a noticeable amount of "junk" removed. They were still a little dull, so I hit them with my buffing wheel for about 5 seconds. Going to pick up some Amsoil MP Heavy-Duty Metal Protector so hopefully they don't rust up again.

Here are some before and afters:

One down, a lot more to go:

It is not that bad around here where I usually drive. I have to be extra careful in areas I am not familiar with. I mostly scrape the plastic airdam under the splitter though.

Any good Farm Supply store or a Fastenal store will have the bolts in zinc coated or stainless steel.

I replace mine with stainless steel.

Not future problems that way.

Grumpy

I wonder how well the A MP H-D MP will work for this  I use/like it for undercar stuff, but I wouldn't have thought to use it for this application. IF they start to corrode again you'll be familiar with the whold processs so a quickie redo shouldn't be too tough...maybe dab them with some kind of paint.

Heh heh, Chuck Mallett told me that I should just consider the airdam replacement to be a regular part of oil changes.

There are inexpensive "zinc coating" kits on the market for small parts.

Can't recall where I got mine, but had some fasteners I could not find stainless metric replacements for the little 1963 Puch/Allstate m/c I restored, so zinc coated them.(That's the red one in my photo gallery)

It uses a D cell battery, although Houston modified my with a small transformer so I run off 110v house hold current.

Eastwood sells those.

So it works OK for you? I've always wondered about how well those DIY coating/plating kits work.

I still have a few more to do, but I am happy with the results. Maybe I am the only one who can tell a difference, but it did bother me! I put them back untreated, so I am keeping an eye on them for now. The car hardly sees rain/bad weather, and pretty much only gets wet for bath, or those damn sprinklers on the main street to my house.....

I do love that Evapo-rust stuff, and it did a great job. Thanks to C. Hahn for the heads up :thumb:

Awesome, I'm glad to hear the Evapo-Rust is working out well for you!
