Bought my PC

Yep. I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a PC random orbit. I got the 7336SP model from lowes for $99.98. It came with the side handle that can be switched to either side, and both a sanding backing disc and a foam posishing wheel.

I opted for the 7336 because it comes with the larger counterweight, so I can use the larger pads. :D

i also picked up a few chemicals to add to the collection. I got the MEguiars Mirror Glaze 2 fine-cut cleaner. it says that its a 5 out of10 cut. Its for detailing my moms van (no wax in over 3 years... its rough...) and some 3M one step cleaner wax (Medium oxidation remover)...

I hope the combo will get my moms van back to the finish it came with (If not better :bounce ) I'm gonna use 3M on my truck also to get rid of some minor scuffs that I've picked up during my short lived off roading adventure.

You're not gonna use all that with that white pad that came with the PC are you? It is widely recommended that you throw that thing directly in the trash. I bought a PC last week, and I am waiting on my Propel pads to arrive with my Poorboy's so I can get to work. What process you gonna do before you hit the vehicles with the PC?

no way. I'm gettin rid of that pad asap.

I'm ordering some other pads tonight or tomorrow. Propel, sonus, or lakewood... not sure. whatever I can get for cheapest... lol...

Process before PC

Take to DIY car wash and use pressure gun (the van needs it, The bugs on the front are horrible)

Put bug and tar remover on front (I'm not kidding about the bugs)

Wash

Clay

Wash

Cutting pad with Meguiars fine cut

x2 more than likeley

finer pad with 3M swirl remover/wax

QD and buff to remove

top with meguiars yellow on pc

wheels:

remove hubcaps

pressure wash all through wheel and cap

scrub with A2Z wheel cleaner (this stuff really works if you scrub)

wax the caps, reinstall

scrub tires with a2z and treat them

interior is gonna be hell... I'm still researchin that one. there is stuff that has been ground in since 2000...

thanks.

but, one problem, i think. The propel pads use a 5" backing plate, and my 7336 comes with a larger counterweight than the 7424. Will it still work, or will it numb my hands after 5 minutes?

Do yourself a favor and throw the PC backing plate away before you destroy any pads with it. Get a soft yellow 5 inch backing plate (urethane) to use with your new pads. The stock PC plate is stiff as a board, and made for sanding. Its hard edges will cut your expensive pads. I got my yellow pad at autogeek.com, but I have seen it other places as well. Some pad kits also come with a soft backing plate. With a 6.5 inch LC pad the 6 inch counterweight is perfect. Learn from my mistakes...

oh yeah, never was planning on using either of the things that came in the box with the PC.... I never trust stuff like that... i'm gonna save the white pad in case i run across something REALLY bad that I don't want to ruin one of my good pads on...

I'm leanin pretty heavy towards the LC's... I think I'm gonna go ahead and order em...

ok. I ordered the 6" kit from properautocare.com plus a 6" orange pad.

I also got the snappy pad cleaner, and some black trim resorer.

I saved my PC backing plate in case I ever decide to use the 7336 as a sander (doubtful, but you never know). Anyway, I ordered the Propel pad kit with backing plate plus some additional pads from exceldetail. Check out that pad kit deal they have, and then throw in extras of what you think you need. I hear that the green pad is the one you will use the most.

Yes, for most the green Propel is commonly referred to as the go-to pad for most applications. I on the other hand have encountered some cars in pretty bad shape so it hasn't been very common for me to stay with the green Propel but maybe that's because I'm still not sure which product and pad to use. :nixweiss

I think I just need some more practice in. :xyxthumbs

oh... heh. too late, orders already in for the LC pads and 6" backing plate...

will the propel pads fit on the 6" LC backing plate or no?

Yeah I think it does work, but the Propel pads have a slightly recessed area on the back of the pad. The area's diameter is 5", which makes it very easy to center the 5" backing plate. A 6" plate wouldn't fit flat against the back of the pad.

You could always email Patrick and ask him what he thinks...

Patrick was telling me, keep in mind I ordered my PC from Coastaltool.com with the 6" hook and loop kit, that I should be fine using the 6" backing plate if I wanted to use it before I got my 5" backing plate from him. I haven't personally tried it myself but I was like eh, I'll just wait for my pretty 5" yellow backing plate... hehe.

I'll have to keep the propel kit on bookmark for when I wear the LC set out.

Thanks everyone for the help, I'll post up again when everything is here and I put it to work. I have a funny feeling that this van may be bad enough for the Ex D contest....

All my stuff came in today. I got 2 orange pads, 2 white pads, and a red pad. I'm hopefully going to be able to test it all out this weekend.

I also arranged access to a carpet extractor whenever I need it for a minimal fee (chemical cost, plus throw in a little for maintenance.
