Bought a PC, but no clue on pad kits

edge pads use a quick change adapter, are dual sided (two pads for the price of 1) and center perfectly every time.



you need a finishing pad, a polishing pad, and a light cutting pad. However, you may get a better deal if you spend a littl emore and buy the kit that includes all those pads i just mentioned, a heavy cutting pad, and the adaptor.



yes, most of us use sealants. however you apply sealants first, allow them to cure (typically 8-24 hours, depends on product) and then you can apply a carnuba wax.



make sure you apply a pure wax (ie - a wax, be it carnuba like mothers pure carnuba paste wax or synthetic wax like meguiars NXT) and not a cleaner wax, as the cleaners in a cleaner wax will strip the sealant you previously applied.



using this methods takes longer, but will create a sureal finish on your paint.



Personally i use lake country pads with velcro backing plates for my pc. this advantage allows you to use smaller, 4'' pads on your pc, as others have sugested. These pads make the pc a far more advanced tool, as the smaller pads move faster and cut serious defects quickely, much more effiiciently that a 6.5 pad. Your car does not need this..... not yet. (perhaps youc ould post a pic here so i dont eat my own words later :werd: )



in all fairness, other websites like autogeek.net, topoftheline.com and autopia's own store also sell fantastic products.



optimum and lake country/edge pads are amoung the most popular products, you will find very little negative comments concerning these products.

very nice info man! When you apply the sealant do you use the pc with a polish pad or do you just use a mf towel or a mf applicator?
 
haha. if its klasse high gloss sealant glaze, i tried it once with my pc on a black lake country finishing pad, and never will i do it again. that particular sealant needs to be applied by hand. i cannot speak for other sealants, as Klasse is the only one i am familiar with.



I know poorboys, wolfgang, chemical guys and jeff's werkstat have wonderful acrylic sealants . . . best do some searching on the forums, or just start a new thread requesting a selaant recomendation and tips for application.



check the autopia detailing guide for more info on tips for sealant/wax application. i use a mf applicator dampened with distilled water to apply the Klasse, and a foam applicator pad to apply my paste waxes. . .
 
super, super thin coats btw . . . at least for klasse . . . the coat you apply should be so thing you should halft to ask yourself if its even on the paint . . .

What's the difference between the klasse All in one sealant and the high gloss one.
 
All in one is a one step cleaner polish, and acrylic sealant. most follow with high gloss sealant glaze, as that is a pure sealant and imporves gloss, and adds durability. (thats why you will see them refered to as the klasse twins.



Most people who use Klasse use both all in one to clean the surface, and prep it for the application of the high gloss sealant glaze. you dont necessiarly need to let the all in one cure, but the KSG (high gloss sealant glaze) needs 8 to 24 hours to cure before application of another coat, or a "topper" over the KSG using carnuba wax.



many people top the KSG with carnuba wax to create a dazzling finish. other layer the KSG, putting on as many layers as their little hearts desire . . . creating quite a barrier between the elements and the paint finish that some pro detailers and avid enthusiasts have seen up to a years long protection on their paint.

my car is my daily driver, the car is garaged it is never outside unless i have to leave right when i get home. I usually wash my car once a week or whenever it is dirty.
 
The choice is ultimatly yours, but if that were my car, I would get your pads and polish, do a light polishing and get a good sealant on that paint to ready it for the winter. A carnuba topper may not be necissary, but wil make you drop your jaw if applied right, you will be amazed at how awesome the finish looks.



if you end up using an acrylic sealant, you would be wise to purchase a acrylic based quick detailer to maintain the sealant after you wash. sonius make an acrylic spritz that works very well at maintaing the KSG finish on your paint, and will help at maintaining the smooth feeling of your paint, and the durability of the KSG.

this product, also form sonius, is a spray sealant, and can also work well with klasse.

both might seem the same to you, but read the descriptions carefully for each product, and most importantly . . dont go buying stuff just because I recommend it. There are others on this forum with far more expierience and knowledge that will also give you advice. Hey - if it is the same or similar advice to what I said, great - roll with it. Just do your research. Patience will end you up with products you like, that are good for beginners, and that will help you maintain your car keeping your neighbors envious.



thats the one mistake i made . . i bought a lot of stuff before i researched it, and it has ended up costing me over 300 bucks on stuff i will never use. dont ask me to name brands however, just follow advice from other members, and research, ask questions and see what majority products people use, and you will never have that issue. hopefully....

gotcha. Both sealant is done b4 applying the wax correct?
 
correct - AIO, follow with KSG, let it cure, then top with your favorite carnuba wax, spray, liquid or paste.



lots of autopians really like souveran, p21s, chemical guys 50/50



if your not looking to spend as much moent collonite 945, megs no 26, optimum car wax, duragloss aqua wax are all very good choices. . .

After i put the AIO do i let it cure 7-12 hours then put the KSG then let it cure again?
