"Botique" vs. Chemical Distributors

This is a two-part post:

1) Do you use botique products (Meg's, Klasse, Flintz, etc.) or products from a chemical distributor (AutoMagic, CarBrite, Ardex, etc.), or both?

2) Are you an enthusiast detailer, or do you detail for profit (full-time, sole income)?

Not writing a book, no hidden agenda. Just want to see the demographic on product line/user type.

Thanks in advance all.

Seems like everybody's writing a book these days! LOL.

Why can't I find a decent one out there?

I make a good living doing this fulltime. I use a combination of products from AutoInt, Malco, AutoMagic, Meguiars and Eagle One. I use 'boutique' products for the final finish. Usually Klasse Twins and S100.

Flintz?

There's a clue...

Flintz is a little known metal polish, methinks Mike is looking for a free ride...

NOT, repeat NOT writing a book, and not sure what you mean buy a free ride.

To clarify: I'm just wanting to see if enthusiast detailers were buying from chemical distributors, and for-profit detailers were buying solely botique products, or what the mix is.

Can't understand buying everything from on supplier anymore than I can layering 3 coats of this on top of 8 coats of that....

Flintz? You mean FLITZ, as in the metal polish? Hmmm.... I never considered that a boutique product. Kinda like Happich Simichrome, more old skool than anything.

Anyway, I guess I use more boutique products eventhough I do detailing on the side. I've said many times that if I went back into detailing full time I'd use a lot more bulk products. The nuances in many boutiquey products are simply lost when you're detailing lots of cars per week. And the bottom line needs to be Priority #1.

But I'd like to think I'd still offer stuff like Zaino or Klasse or Pinnacle to my customers who wanted them.

Thanks Bretfraz for your reply.

Shot down on the Flitz. Would concur, more old school than botique.

Good point about the nuances being lost during volume.

I'm a enthusiast detailer. If I did this for a living, it would be much of a living, I'd have to compete with Scottwax. I'm a Zaino and Einszett user.

I use a mix of both. Meguiars Body Shop Pro line for paint leveling and correction and Clearkote, Poorboys, S100 and recently testing Klasse, 1Z and a few others for my final glaze and sealant/wax combos.

I feel I get better results mixing and matching like that.
