Boost!

Finally did the SC install today; amazingly, it bolted right on and worked perfectly, first shot. It's pushing about 8lbs of boost; we figure between 160 and170 at the rear wheels.

It feels like I raised anchor, definitely.

Welcome to the boosted club, brother! I've got a 67mm turbo on a '94 Supra. Right now I'm boosting about 15-18psi making around 480rwhp. It's still not enough, and by next summer I should have a methanol injection kit to raise my boost to around 30psi and RWHP to around 650-700. Boost is very addicting. :) Congrats!

The whine of a turbo spinning up is one of my favorite sounds.

I will never go without boost again....I'd prolly just start crying without that whine.

Having had two supercharged cars and two turbocharged cars, I would have to agree completely.

The only real problem with horsepower is getting enough. When you reach the point of "Too much", that will be just about right.

luck people! turbo's are the best, sure most people dont like the lag they produce but i think thats part of the fun :) cant wait to get my hands on a boost car.

Cost and ease of installation was as much a part of it, for me. And, it's the most trouble free boost option available for the Miata; it's not tweaky at all.

The car's fast enough now to get into trouble, but not uncontrollable. Just right!

Cool... my friend has a turbo Miata that went 12.6 on slicks this past season. It's a fun ride. Hey boost is boost... I'll never go without boost again either!

Boost is great, but power is what it's all about.

If you ever get to go for a ride in a Viper, you will know what I mean. Quite a few normally aspirated cars are very quick, and with relatively small engines, as well. Honda S2000, Infinity G35, Nissan 350Z, just to name a few.

Since when is a Honda S2000 considered "very quick" - very quick, to me, puts it in the deep 11 second, high 10 second category.

Hey, excuse me! For some reason I thought a vehicle capable of 5.5 sec. 0-60 times would be considered quick. Darn few deep 11 second, high 10 second cars on the street. Especially not with street tires.

There is much to say about power but without control to me power is usless. Sure its cool to have a miata (or any other street car) that can do the 1/4 mile in 11-12 s but id rather have a miata that handles like its on rails @ reasonable speeds without having the tires ever consider breaking lose. I can only go in a straight line so far before I have an urge to yank the wheel and take a 90 degree turn at 40 without worrying about the car even grunting. Or taking the 'back' way home with lotsa deep curves and small straight aways and feel SAFE really safe. That and knowing my vehicle could handle better than i could ever put it threw its paces is a comfort.

No argument with that statement. You really don't have to choose, though. Power and good handling go together quite well in lots of cars.

The reference to low 11/high 10 second cars, I'm sure is for 1/4 mile times.

Interestingly enough, I had a May 2003 Motor Trend and looked at some of the 1/4 mile times they published in their Road Test Results for that issue.

One car and only one, got into the "deep 11's/high10's". That was a lingenfelter Corvette, 9.2@150.3. Not exactly your normal street car.

A Shelby Cobra, Supercharged 427, 11.8@121 and a Porshe 911 Turbo, 11.9@116. Not very deep in the 11's.

No other Ferrari, Viper, Maserati, BMW, Corvette, Mercedes, Shelby Cobra, none of them were faster than in the 12's. Seems like some pretty quick cars, but not in the deep in the 11's/ high 10's category.

29 of the vehicles they tested, took 10 seconds or longer for 0 to 60.

That's a little misleading though, because it included several SUV's and Mini-van's.

Charles, that's what I like about my station wagon, a familly car doing about 7s on 0-60mph. 250HP, 320Nm torque, not bad, turbo charged :up

Boost all the way!!!!!!!!!!99 Vortech Supercharged Cobra Mustang 10 pound's of boost, 420 rearwheel horsepower..on 91 Octane gas...Congrat's..

Or a VTEC minivan that goes to 60 in under 8 seconds! :D
Just a little quicker than my Pontiac Trans Sport!:doh

Two questions for you, BW.

1. How do you like the Honda?

2. Have you ever seen the Mopar 13 second, turbo mini-van some guy drives? Talk about a sleeper.
