I meant the (seemingly) numerous posts whereDFTowel has said to just use regular detergent, hot water, and dry in the dyer. According to him, and also IME, MFs aren't fragile.



They *do* wear, though, and if you have water issues like I do (I'm still working on that..) the WWs can quit soaking up water. Repeated (and I don't mean just six or eight cycles) washing with no detergent in hot water and distilled white vinegar rinses *did* markedly improve mine though.

Best system I found is wash in the hottest water available using Danase MF wash (Micro Restore worked well too), vinegar in the rinse, tumble dry on low setting. Pre-soak then pre-wash any really grungy towels. I noticed an improvement changing from Woolite to an MF specific detergent. Also I absolutely have to add the vinegar, as I have hard water. If you add too much detergent they must be rinsed until no more suds appear.



I need to start pre-soaking towels with wax on them. When I just throw them in with the rest of the towels they don't feel as absorbent, the wax gets into the entire load (if it's Collinite they all smell like it too).



My oldest towels are used to keep the kitchen and bathrooms clean. I've thrown away very few MFs.

Despite DFTowels post, I still think there is something about the care labels on the towels. I sure would like to hear why DFTowels think we should ignore them and why they towel makers state otherwise. There is another side to this story. They do not make this up in their sleep.

No, but manufacturers' care instructions are often more of a CYA for their benefit than they are good advice for the consumer.



On the topic of boiling MFs, the MFs of mine that came with instructions *to* boil them were MFs made from the same materials as my other MFs; heat within a certain range either damages this material or it doesn't.





I'm not trying to :argue and FWIW DFTowel and I don't always see eye-to-eye on textile care. On the subject of MFs, he's sometimes *TOO* conservative IME/IMO (e.g., regarding the use of the "MF detergents").

There was something on those labels, but I cut them all off.... :geez
