Boat detailing

Will typical polishing/compounds like the ones from Optimum work well to correct paint imperfections on gel coat? I am detailing an RV and would like some product suggestions. Would a rotary be necessary as well? It is a 2005 RV.

Probably not - I did gelcoated aircraft for a while, and HTEC wouldn't touch paint defects in the planes, whereas gelcoat-specific polishes just tore through them. I'd just hit up a boat store and get the Megs boat products in the 16oz bottles. I'd reccomend a rotary - you're not going to get too much correction with a PC. However, if it just needs to be cleaned up and waxed, a PC will do. Megs makes a pretty good filler glaze for boats IIRC (they call it a pure polish) so that via PC under Collinite or any non-cleaner wax via PC should get the job done.

My buddy works for a boat guy (high end, $500,000+ boats) and they use the glaze a lot... gelcoat is very difficult to correct effectively.

The guy that details my boat uses Collinte exclusively, and it works very well. When I did my own boat before I got the big one, I used Klasse AIO only and it worked great.

Any special recommendations of products for saltwater? I am thinking of moving my business to Santa Cruz, and would like to specialize in boat detailing. Since all boats I have previously serviced have been in freshwater, I want to find the best product for saltwater detailing.
