BMW white

Try Meg`s d300 compound on a Meg`s microfiber cutting pad. BMW paint is HARD. That paint will just laugh at an AOI. Try about 8 passes per section with the PC. Clean the pads frequently to get the most cutting action. Don`t overload the pad with polish!

And MF pads are *MUCH* easier to keep clean.
However, if you don`t keep them very clean when polishing, they`ll cut like a finishing pad and scour the finish. Very important to clean MF pads on the fly with compressed air or pad brush.

Brewins- Yeah, I`m all about compressed air for pad cleaning these days, especially given how well it works with the MF ones. That said, I only use MF for aggressive cutting, always finish with foam. Can`t recall ever having them scour the finish though, my constant cleaning must be paying off (pretty much do a thorough cleaning/repriming after every section-pass).

Good that its not as bad as you thought. My Alpine White was pretty swirled up when I bought it, and I was absolutely floored with how hard the paint was. It ended up taking multiple sessions with MF cutting pads and Griots Fast Correcting Creme with a G15 long throw. Ron suggested a good starting point above for test spot, then gradually increase the aggressiveness of the combination of product and pads until you are getting the result you want. If the paint is anything like mine, you may may end up way more aggressive than you originally thought. This is certainly doable, but might be a pretty major project in terms of time and effort if you are using a porter cable. Certainly not insurmountable, definitely have fun with the process, but this won`t be something you can expect to knock out in a day, or even a weekend if its badly swirled.

I used Griots Correcting cream with their orange pad on my PC. It looks a little better but marks are still in, I hid them a little with Prima Banana gloss. It almost looks like someone did a crappy clay job, because the lines are in a straight pattern. I know nothing would be like the car I has since new, but this is a whole new adventure for me. its one thing taking care of a new car, but working on neglected paint is tough. I did get both correcting cream and Fast Correcting cream with griots orange foam pad and the black MF. Maybe next week I will try Fast cream and a MF pad. Can I burn through the paint with a PC?

It also needs clay bad, but Im worried about scratching it more. Is the anything like liquid clay or something else? I know there used to be Surf city liquid clay.

Keep the PC moving and there is about a zero percent of burn through. Do be careful on edges as the paint is usually thinner there. BMW paint is very hard, I wouldn`t worry about burn through. I have heard the Griots stuff does not cut as much as say Menz 400, so I wouldn`t worry.

It`s not about "burn through", you`ll do serious damage *LONG* before you get anywhere close to that.

No, it`s not likely with a PC, but it can certainly happen...abrasion is abrasion and you can only do so much before it`s a problem.

If it needs decontaminated I`d *ABSOLUTELY* do that first. I`d use a chemical approach (namely ValuGard`s ABC system) myself, but others like the nanoskin approach.

I ordered the Griots ones, Nanoskin are OOS. I worked on the paint this weekend. I agree I definitely need to decontaminate. I hope the Griots ones work, I ordered both the red and yellow. I will use them next weekend and then try to get more of the scratches out, maybe I will try the fast correcting cream. After this weeks attempt using correcting cream with a orange pad I topped with banana gloss then Hydromax then CG V7. Paint is real shinny considering.

dogma- While I guess this is Autopian Heresy, IME white can look great even if it`s not perfectly marring-free. A thorough decontamination oughta help immensely, it was just the right thing for the *utterly trashed* white Crown Vic I used to have...non-Autopians thought it looked great even though I thought it looked like it needed repainted yesterday.

Yep. There`s some unremovable marring without burning the paint on my white `89 Cadillac but it still looks great.

I`d never be satisfied with it if it were another color
Yeah, that thought occurred to me when I had that Crown Vic too. Though I`ve somehow gotten OK with the dark blue Audis innumerable issues...eh, I can blame `em on the original owner (though I do esteem her highly).
