BMW Wheel Cleaning Gel Vs Everything else

I brought my car in for service today and noticed a 16oz spray bottle of Wheel Cleaner Gel is only $6.00. Has anyone used this in comparison with other wheel cleaners (ie P21s Wheel Gel)??

I havent used the product...although i would like to make a recommendation if thats ok. BMW is pretty notorious for their massive amounts of brake dust..and if they are factory wheels i would suggest getting Meguiar's Wheel Brightener...a gallon is like 16 bucks or so and you cut it 4:1...very powerful cleaner..i think that is more cost effective and a better option for you. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the recommendation... =)

Hi,

If you want more chimes, check out search it has been posted about a few times.

As for wheel Brightner, a very acidic so might not be ok for his wheels and you have to be careful with dwell times (if any!).

Personally prevent is better then cure Poorboys wheel sealant will reduce build up and put a up barrier between the dust and your rim. Effects last about 4 weeks, if washed every week with shampoo and water.

An easy to apply liquid sealant such as Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection, not only provides about 10 weeks of easy cleaning but will really make the wheels look good. Mist it on from a small spray bottle, move it between the spokes with Wolfgang Finger Pockets.

Maintain all wheel sealants with Meguiars Ultimate QD and you will find that less brake dust builds up and less bonds.

PS. Yeah i have done a fair bit of testing, i HATE seriously bonded wheel dust!

In the UK, most BMW car care products, including the non-acid wheel gel, is rebadged Sonax. Sonax do 3 non-acid wheel cleaners, IIRC:

1. A cheap non-acid

2. R2000 non-acid

3. Extreme non-acid, which turns pink, to signal it’s ready to be washed off. The most expensive in the range.

I’ve used BMW’s £4 (approx $6) non-acid wheel gel. Comes in the exact same silver/grey spray bottle as the Sonax range, but I’ve never discovered which of the Sonax range it is. I think it performs exceptionally well for a non-acid, both in performance and being non corroding. I’ve tried most other ‘safe’ cleaners, inc P21S green gel (not the pink german version) and this is the one I settled on. The last time I stocked up on it, they told me BMW were replacing it with ‘a version that turns pink’, so it looks like they’re replacing it with the Sonax Extreme.

Btw, Sonax is not rebadged P21S.

If they are factory wheels, they are most likely coated...wheel brightener is fine on these factory wheels...the caution that needs to be taken should definitely be understood..i spray on agitate really fast and rinse off..this isnt something you let sit on the wheel at all...but i dont think it is unsafe for him.

The brake dust really only gets tough when it is left to build up. A good non-acid wheel gel (P21s) used once a week or once every two weeks depending on how often the car is driven is more than enough to cut the brake dust. However, you let bmw brake dust build up, it is an absolute nightmare to get off and acid is usually the only choice.

i just checked out the BMW wheel cleaner .. i work at a BMW dealer .. the color is more of a yellow/orange - ish color and not neon green like the P21S GWC .. could it still be the same ?

Translucent gold champagne colour, here.

Hi,

Yeah that wasnt the bottle i had, indeed it looks alot like the sprayer from the Sonax bottles. The BMW stuff i had, maybe the same stuff thats discussed by other memebers on here came in cylindical container standard shape spraying head.

Prehapes all BMW wash products now the same everywhere.

:werd: Wheel Brightener should work great on that BMW dust

Please let me know what else works. I love the wheel cleaner - works great on the back wheels but the front wheels are a different story.
