BMW $800 "polymer coating".....

Ever since I tried Aquapel, my wipers have had a bad case of chatter. I decided to try the new PIAA silicone blades. Has anyone tried them? Thoughts?

Don't know anything about silicone blades, but the regular ones work great with Aquapel! Absolutely no chatter or streaking....

My blades were starting to wear out but after applying Rain-X I decided to keep them. They work like a charm now!!!



I'm thinking about trying the PIAA windshield wipers. They are suppose to lay down a layer of silicone so at speed you can turn your windshield wipers off and the layer of silicone will act like Rain-X/Aquapel. Some people that I have talked to really like them and won't use anything else now. I haven't seen their beading in action though.
 
I just bought wipers for my car. Looked at PIAA's but the price worked against them. I got the Bosch Excel's and they're great, even if they are $12.00 each. PIAA's were like $25 each. Too much for a wiper that gets replaced yearly.

I agree, $25 is pricey for a wiper blade; OTOH, if it lasts twice as long . . . (not saying they do, just wondering)

The cost was $19.00 {19"} and $23.00 {21"} I hope longer life makes up for the price. If not, perhaps a standard refill can be used to replace.
 
I have the PIAA wipers on my WRX for several months now, they work wonders! It literally spread the sillicone on the windshields...the effect is not unlike Rain-X (without the risk of streaking of course)..



Unfortunately, I can't comment on longevity issue,...as these are new products..but so far I'm very satisfied :)
 
So I just talked to my brother-in-law. His neighbor just bought a BMW and paid $800 to have them coat it with some polymer that "goes on aircraft to prevent dirt from sticking". They put it on the rims and everything and gave him a 10 year guarantee of no scratches and no "un-removable dirt".

Has anyone else heard about this? I can't stand how dealerships can get away with stuff like this.

All the money that I spend on products, I would think my stuff is better than dealership products. Wish I could charge $800 to put something like Cquartz on a car.

Yep sounds like cilajet, one of my customers got the same deal. Only he paid 1,000 for it . Its nothing special at all , his car was deeply swirled in the first month of having it applied from the dealership washings.

Wonder what the dealer will do to correct swirls?
 
I have heard of this cilajet, I'm sure that's what it is. I guess I need to read up more on these new coatings. Just a new concept to wrap my head around if people are claiming that it protects the car from scratches (swirls).

:-t If a product can prevent a car from scratching for 10 years, why wouldn't high end auto makers simply apply it to every vehicle from the factory and include it in the price? When a 5 year old Chevy or Ford parked next to a 5 year old BMW, Benz, Lexus etc. the difference in appearance would drive many of those people to purchase the nicer cars in the future.

Answer: They can pocket $795 profit from the suckers. @-):money:

I would love to see someone test the warranty.:devil: Run the car through a Scratch-O-Matic every week. Every time it is swirled take the car to the dealership and take one of their nice, new loaners. Not only will your car look great, but the mileage will stay real low. A few customers like that should keep them from selling snake oil.
 
I'm not sure a dealer would put anything really special on even at the price of $800. The Honda dealership wanted to charge me $400 for their version of a sealant. I'm sure the price goes up as the price of the car goes up. I read the fine print and to take part in the warranty there is a reapplication interval so it's not a one time deal for 10 year protection. Just another way to get $800. They know you won't have the car for 10 years.
 
My sister-in-law use to take her car back to the dealer and have them reapply the sealant they charged her for that had a 5 yr warranty. After about 18months they gave her money back because she was taking back her car every 2 weeks and it would cost them money to have someone do it and waste their time. Opti-coat 2.0 will take care of that for anyone and you still don't have to charged them a arm and a leg for that service.
 
I have a client that has a pretty nice collection of cars (GT3, 599 GTB, 427 Cobra and 2 Benz Black Series AMG Coupes). I'm thinking I might talk him into OptiCoat on the two Black Series, they are pretty messed up right now as we have not been able to corect them yet. Once I do, I think OptiCoat would be a good fit for those cars to help keep them looking good.

Now only if I can charge $800 for just the coating service.

Just another example of dealers squeezing every penny out of their customers. Any of today's nano coatings, applied by a quality detailer, will out perform whatever the dealer applies.

I told him the only way to get rid of the swirls is to polish them out and then reapply the cilajet . He doesnt trust them to touch his car anymore .

And when I told him if I polished the swirls out it would remove his cilajet he didnt want to do it.

I guess he will have to live with his swirls then.

And also since most waxes degrade the cilajet he doesnt even even want me to wax or clay it . The car is doomed!

We both are not happy!

The only one thats benefited is the dealer !

BTW I only washed this car once after the first week he got it back from the dealer and he already had a couple scratches that I had to buff out .

It really upsets me that my customer didnt consult me on this , now we both are paying for it.

On the website it says the product needs to be re applied at 5 years.
 
If you ask me, it is a good marketing ploy. Think about it, nothing can harm the look of the car because it has the ultimate protection. Paying $800.00 means that you are getting top notch stuff. I guess it is a mind set. Sometimes nothing you can say will alter a customer's thinking because a dealer knows best. Why not ask the car manufacturer about their opinion.
