bmw 740i questions

Hey guys I just bought a new car as you may have seen in the car and driver section and I have a question. The wheels are in pretty good shape and just need a little polishing to get them looking great, but I am trying to find out what parts need metal polish and which ones are clearcoated. I thought the lip was just metal but upon close inspection today I noticed that there is silver paint on the lip that can be scraped off (and is also falling off). If someone who has detailed these wheels before has an answer for me I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Here are a few pics in case you missed the others.

nobody knows? If nobody knows about these wheels in particular, does anyone have a good way to tell what is clearcoated and what is not? Thanks!
 
I see many sets of those wheels in the BMW shop. If they are aftermarket, they are clear coated with questionable quality (you said they were already peeling). If they are OEM, the clear coat is pretty good and will withstand several years of driving.



Either way, you're best best is to find a wheel refinisher in your area. I don't know your location (other than the palm trees in the photos), but most metro areas have 1+ mobile wheel finishing companies and are pretty reasonable. Be sure to see/check references if you go that route.



There is another company that we ship wheels to (pm me and I'll get you the name and prices) that does very nice work, but is higher and they don't want mounted wheels. No tires, just the rims and you have to UPS them.





Finally, if you are a do-it yourselfer, you could apply some clear coat to the wheel as a temporary fix.

Thank you it does help I'll try to get a picture of what I am talking about exactly. I know the wheels are oem and can't figure out this paint issue. Are you saying the entire wheel is usually clearcoated, even the outside lip? I am going to check the spare in the trunk to try and figure out what has happened.. Thanks again.
