Blueprints for new garage

Update: August 29, 2004

Wow. It's hard for me to believe that a garage/house concept that I dreamed up on a computer program is now becoming a reality. It's a very exciting time for our family.

wow Dean, it is really looking good! And it is moving on fast! wow

Thanks againg for the updates!

PS what is the drive going to be made of!?!?

:)

With the revised blueprints, there is 3625 heated sq feet (including the finished bedroom over the garage), and 1904 sq ft of total garage space. There is about 400 sq ft of storage over the 4-car garage section.

Storage room over 4 car garage:

There is enough floor space to fit 7 cars in both garages. With car lifts it's theoretically possible to fit 10 cars. It's more likely I'll use no more than 2 lifts (8 car capacity).

Update: September 4, 2004

The bricks and the roof shingles have arrived. We're having a "walk-through" inspection with the builder in a few days to finalize framing, electrical and plumbing plans.

I made a last minute addition to the 4-car garage section when I realized that there was no natural light in the room. I added two 4 ft x 2 ft casement windows positioned about 8 feet high. It shouldn't be too much of a security hazard and it still leaves room for wall shelves and cabinets.

We had our "walk-through" inspection today with the electrical, HVAC, security and plumbing crews.

Thanks to the advice from those on Autopia, I've incorporated several changes:

* 400 amp service

* 8 (2x 8 ft) high output fluorescent lights and 2 175W Halide lights (i.e. Griots without the markup) in the 4 car garage.

* 6 (2x 8ft) fluorescent lights in the 2 car garage.

* 220 V outlets with separate 25amp circuits in the big garage for the car lifts.

* Washer/Dryer/sink and computer networking in 2 car garage.

* Both garages fully insulated.

Damn, your garage is going to be more luxurious than my first apartment in NYC.

This is just beautiful design work and a thoughtful approach from someone who loves cars.

Keep those pics coming...I'd love to see the rest of the house as well as it looks just as awesome!

Dean,

Any update on the progress of your garage?

Breathlessly waiting for the next installment. This has been a great series...

Sorry for the delayed updates, fellas.

I'm not sure how to post pics since Autopia management now discourages attachments. :) So instead, I'll try a few links.

UPDATE:

The roof is done, and the brick is about 70% done. The 4 car garage is insulated, and the 2 car garage is sheet-rocked.

*phatphob,

Thanks for the ideas about the driveway. I'll ask my contractor how much that decorative border would cost

Definitely try to do something to break up all of the concrete. It adds some to the cost of the driveway but not much.

This is the best picture I have of the driveway. It looks nice and really takes your eyes away from the gray. Excuse the mess, LOL.

Thanks Dean. Looking great! Next Autopia meet at your new house?

"This is the best picture I have of the driveway."

Damn good pic of the Solara. :bow
