But who is going to tape the trim just for waxing?

I have used Wet Diamond (liquid) on four cars so far and I have not stained trim. Can't speak to Midnight Sun though.
Claude , I found out it doesn't have anything written ( I also call )about it staining or not. But with these new Plastic Textures being use on vehicles these days it's advisable to tape all trim areas because of a chance of staining. It seems to happen on some fine to heavy textures surfaces. So if you don't want to take a chance of it staining then maybe one should tape those area's. Like I had said before I haven't had it happen to me yet. I will keep a look out on my next job.
I wrote this in a PM to Akimel, and thought this the most appropriate response.
I have used Midnight Sun on at least 50 cars or more and have never experienced it staining trim. I also spoke with Jack and he confirmed that with many thousand jars sold that we have never received a complaint about this wax (or the previous Batch) staining trim.
Based on the numbers of Midnight Sun sold and used to the case of it staining trim (thousands to 1) I would feel more comfortable stating that it 'doesn't stain trim' vs. 'stains trim'.
Typically the abrasives and solvents used in waxes with cleaners, or certain petroleums added to the wax will cause staining on most rubber and trim. It is the same concept (since this mostly happens in cleaner/waxes) as letting an abrasive polish dry on the trim.
Midnight Sun uses the highest quality ingredients and contains no abrasives, simply there is nothing in the formula that should cause staining, which is why I believe we have never heard of it before.
However we cannot test for everything, try as we might. Not all trim is equal, and more important it does not live an equal life once it is manufacture red and placed on the vehicle. It is impossible to know what products have been used on the trim, what types of chemicals have been used to clean it, what chemicals have been used to dress it. All of these factors can contribute to very isolated and unexpected results.
Of course at Proper Auto Care we thoroughly test and support every product we sell and have a soft spot in our hearts for Blackfire. Claude, I am very sorry you had this result, as I would have loved for your Midnight Sun experience to be as great as the thousands of others
However we stand behind everything and certainly want you to be happy with your hard earned money so give Jack a call at 1 800 628 7596!
This morning I applied to Midnight Sun to the textured trim below on my Chevy HHR, to confirm what have been my experience with this wax.

Midnight Sun is designed to be wiped on and wiped off wet, but I let it dry and fully cake on to the surface, to increase the likelihood of staining.

The wax required a little effort to remove, but still wiped away cleanly and left the mirror looking dark and rich.

I waited two hours after application to see if the surface would be begin to stain. Instead, with the sun further over head, the surface looked amazing.

I cleaned my other mirror with alcohol.

The taped it up and applied Midnight Sun to the other half of the mirror and let sit for about 5 minutes.

Then I wiped it off and was greeted with the same result (but obviously on half of the mirror. I will wait two hours then take a picture of the 50/50 mirror to see if any staining occurs.

And I do agree that it looks better and lasts longer then that whats-its-name other brand!

Tell me about it, i hate wax stains, i have tried so many things, and NG.
I will try your idea.
Thanx for the Tip
Claude
Just any old pink eraser will do. I usually by the rectangle ones so the pencil does not hit the car. I never have time to tape out my own car so I usually work around the trim by hand. ( I can probably tape out faster.) The times I have gotten it on the trim I learned this trick years ago. Just rub the stain with an eraser just like your erasing pencil on paper. It does take time. You will have to work from multiple angles to get it off. My black trim is textured. Yours looks smoother then mine you may need less work. I then grab an old children's toothbrush and scrub it with a little autoglym bumpercare to finish it off
Have you noticed this staining on this particular trim with any other waxes?
No i have not, other Wax= Souveran
Other Sealants=Zaino, Klasse AIO and Glaze
Todd, can it be a bad batch or container. Can it be exchanged for another container? Im willing to stay with it and willing to order the wet diamond also and see how that works out.
I was late calling Jack, i will call him tomorrow, late day at work today.
Time for some Baseball...
Good Night
Claude
Claude, while I would never rule out that it is a batch problem, I would say that is highly unlikely. Of course speaking with Jack is the best bet regarding a solution to the problem. My goal is to not only make sure we make it right but also figure out the cause of the problem. Again I am very sorry that you suffered what appears to be a very isolated result.
In this thread, titled Wax Residue, you mention that you have gotten residue from other waxes you have tried on the rough texture. What is the difference in your eyes between the staining that Blackfire caused and the 'residue' that your other products created?
Have fun and I hope your team wins tonight, unless of course, they are playing my team:thumbup:
