Blackfire on black SVT Focus

Nice job on the focus. I see you debadged the wrex.. looks good that way.

You had to QD the cars before you took the pictures; looks like they would have been covered with dust driving up there.

Hey, t-wrex!

I've got a couple of questions concerning the engine. First off,

AWESOME JOB on the car!! :xyxthumbs

1) Did you clean the engine there in your drive way?

2) If you did, what did you use to clean it?

I've been wanting to clean my engine but with the way California can a little !@#* retentive concerning the environment, I haven't done it from my drive way. And I don't know of any environmentally safe degreasers to clean it with.

Thanks,

Scott

T-wrex the cars look great.

It's interesting seeing them side by side how much taller the Focus is than the WRX. I sure would like to flog those cars back to back on an autocross course.

Simple Green is biodegradable and does an okay job of cutting grease.

The engine was actually pretty clean to start with (since the car only had a hundred miles or so on it), so I just wiped down all the non-painted metal parts (like the valve cover and headshield) with brake cleaner sprayed on a rag, cleaned all the painted surfaces with Meguiars QD, and put 303 on all the plastic parts.

When I've degreased other engines (in my Alfa and WRX) I used Foamy Engine Brite and just did it in the driveway... trying to use as little water as possible. I couldn't think of any way to capture the cleaner when I rinsed it off so it just went down the gutter... I guess I could've gone to a self-serve carwash place and done it, but those drains probably just mix with the street drains anyway. Afterwards I just sat and weeped for the dolphins

Iconoclast,

Thanks for the compliment... I'm really happy with the debadging :D Actually we didn't QD before the pictures, the cars didn't pick up too much dirt (well.. some brake dust on the wheels, but we both drive like maniacs :D). They did get a little dirty from sitting in the dirt lot for a while, so we dusted & QDed when we got home :up

NickATRvtec,

She's 23, turning 24 in April. She's always willing to model in front of the cars... she likes it. She could be probably be a model, but she's too smart and a talanted Graphic Designer (well, I guess I shouldn't say that... I'm sure some models ARE smart... I'm just shooting myself in the foot here... better quit while I'm ahead!).

In stock form the cars are probably very similar in height... but my WRX is lowered slighty with Prodrive springs. The WRX actually has more headroom than the Focus (the Focus has a sunroof the WRX doesn't that's probably why).
