Black WOW - long term feedback

I've used it somewhat extensively last season and am planning to give it a go .

Initial impressions when it's on its that its a bit too glossy. After a wash or wipedown, it's perfect. I'm still 50/50 on the durability of this. Even prepping the trim (prepsol, steam cleaner), even thinking applying BW when the trim is hot vs. not.....

What's your take on the longevity of this product (based on proper prep procedures). I have not used it extensively enough to make that decision.

I'm still adding it to my 1994 Dodge Caravan trim. It sucks it up like no other but even though it is still drinking the stuff up due to how dry it is, it beads just like a fresh coat of paint. Last time I applied it was easily over 6months ago...

Its been 3 mos. and on the mirror trim its holding up very well. The wiper cowl is starting to show a little wear, but that's where water sits for awhile after a rain.

I put a coating on my explorer over a year ago and it still looks like i just did it a few hours ago. hands down the best longest lasting trim product I've ever encountered. Still on my same little $25 bottle too. So well worth the investment.

I don't want to break the party, but for both my vehicles, it hasn't been a success. It does look good on application, like any trim dressing, but didn't last much longer than others. A bit longer actually, but FAR from 6 to 12 months. 2-3 weeks at best.

One vehicle with large body cladding (1998 RAV4) I tried it on a few times. Impossible to get an even look on such large surfaces. Also, washing this cladding while there is BW on it ruins a mitt. Freezes with a flat color in cold canadian winter.

I still use it on small trim parts, but won't buy more when the bottle's done.

I am going to apply some Black Wow to my wheel wells and splash guards today. I was curious about how you prep the surface before application. Here's my plan:

1. Foam gun/bucket wash with long brush

2. Apply Amazing Roll-Off, let sit ~5 min., rinse

3. Spray with 50:50 IPA/Distilled H20, wipe off

4. Apply KAIO to clean remaining residue

5. Apply Black Wow

On my textured trim it holds up pretty well...going several weeks strong with no signs of letting down...on the smoother parts of my trim (window/door area) it streaks anytime it rains and runs like crazy.

I've been using it for just over a year now. I've had a couple pieces of trim that it just didn't seem to work on. It seems that if there is *anything* on the trim (old polish, old wax, QD residue.. anything at all), it prevents the Black WOW from penetrating enough to stick around for any length of time. If the trim is "prepped" (stripped of any residues), it lasts a long, long time.

^^Supe, you should email Richard about PreWow and see when he will release it. You are going to love it! I'm still on the beta run he let me have :D

This is true for any of these penetrating trim restorers including Mothers Back to Black and PB TR.

I spent quite a bit of time quizzing Richard at Detail Fest and found that applying several coats over the period of a day will net the best results as the plastic trim soaks it up. Since it is absorbed into the plastic, anything left sitting on the surface needs to be removed or else it could result in runs or streaks as some have observed.

I just looked over his FAQs and it states there that a typical application should last 1 to 2 months depending on conditions.

As far as removing it if you get any on your paint, I think I remembered him saying Simple Green or window cleaner will remove it, but best to double-check that info.

Splash guards yes, wheel wells no. Why not just use a tire foam or spray for your wheels wells. BW is too thick to spread evenly on a rough surface. Also, skip the KAIO.

Oh, that sounds like a great product. Hope he brings it to market soon. Wonder if it's gonna smell like watermelon Jolley Ranchers, too.

Big plus one on that. KAIO will leave a sealant behind, and completely prevent Black Wow from penetrating.
