Black, they way it should be

Here is the 2005 Jeep that I worked on last night/today. Was in horrid shape, and Jeep paint is surprisingly HARD! The black finished off on XP Compound (extremely high cut), with a mid cut pad via rotary with absolutly no holograms. I was utterly shocked.

Ended up going over the whole truck with XP Compound x2 to remove the tunnel wash scratches (he goes through 4-5 times a week). There were tons, so I didn't expect them to all come out. After these two steps, they weren't all gone yet, so I decided to try out a little milder polsih to see if I was introducing anything. Turns out this was the right move, as once I finished off with Automagic Power Gloss, the finish was swirl free.

I topped it with Souveran, but it seemed to cover up the metallic. I topped it with Awsome Gloss and it popped a ton more. It really surprised me.

So, enough of me blabbering, what do you think?

Great work Steve. The flake on that paint really pops nicely.

Did you use LGCM on the interior? And what was ur process for the wells?

On the interior, I used my scrub brushes, including a tooth brush, along with some Dealers Choice APC. Scrubbed like mad and then extracted with my 6hp Ridged Shop Vac.

On the wheel wells I used AM 777 full strength along with a scrub brush and went at it. After scrubbing I used my 2300 PSI pressure washer to rinse out all the crud. I let them dry and then dressed with AM Dress It Right, which dries to a hard finish after around 12 hours.

Wow - Great job.

I really like the way you finished up the engine compartment and the wheel wells.

The flake is awesome.

If I could do half as well as you I would be all that and a bag of chips.

:hifive:

Beautiful detail Steve! Another

$105 detail? :D

You better triple your prices.

Be careful - people WILL take advantage of you.

I charged $200, but ran me around 14 hours for the job.

Geesh! Even at $30.00/hour that should be $600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never made $30/hour on any job I've done. I'm modest and just like doing what I'm doing. I'm happy with what I make.

The money will come - keep hooking people up like that and they'll send you tons of referral business...and you'll easily be able to quote these people a higher price because the person who referred you will have talked you up so much.

Outstanding work, beautiful result, & great pix! :2thumbs: :bigups

You really give your customers super quality details. :bow

I'd pay you $200 to make my black truck look that good. Nice to see people take pride in their work and go the extra effort. :2thumbs:

haha man i have the same car as that (only the rocky mountain edition) my paint has never looked that nice! and the wells, nice job dude. Maybe i just neglect mine because its a jeep and the bmw's and porsches in the family get all the attention haha. Great detail.

Thanks everyone. I must say, the paint I'm working on right now is even worse than this was. This time I'm taking step by step pictures, so no worries there.

Also, just wait till you see the black GTR I'm doing on saturday. :D

That looks great Steve. It's been great fun to watch your work as your skills have improved. The wetness on that vehicle is superb.
