Black Scratched Maxima

Hey everyone,

I helped out a friend today with his black Maxima. This car was side swiped down the passenger side. Surprisingly there was no dents just some scratches. I first tried Meg's 80 with the g-100 and a 8006 pad. That did nothing so I tried 83 with the g-100 and a 8006 pad and again nothing. I then had to bring out the BIG GUN, my Makita rotary. I used the rotary with 84 and a 7006 pad at 1100-1300 rpm's. This seemed to get the scratches down to a point where they are no longer noticeable. Then I did a final polish with Meg's 82 with the g-100 and a 9006 pad. I only did the passenger side for today I will do the entire car at anothertime. Here are some before and after pictures.

The scratch is nolonger visable. It is located about 1/2 inch above my finger.

The remaining portion of the scratch is the blury line about 3/4 inch above my finger.

In the right lite (direct sun lite) and the right angle you could still see the scratches but they are not as visable as before.

How deep were the scratches? The rule of thumb is that if your finger nail gets caught in the scratch its to deep to be polished out and would need a repaint or some type of touch up.

Looking at your before and after pics, it looks like you really reduced it, and like you said in the right light, at the right angle you can see it, but its not nearly as visible as before.

The 2 large clusters of scratches located near the front wheel and the rear wheel were the deepest and in some spots did infact grab my finger nail. Every other area was 1/4 as bad as those areas.
