Black Saab 9-7 vs. Metabo 7175

Clean Dean

Keep it clean !!!
Detailing in 31 to 37 degree temperatures is definitely a bit challenging, but I have been biting at the bit to give my recently acquired Metabo PE 7175 rotary buffer a “test” on a challenging car. Well the “challenge” came in the form of a black Saab 9-7 SUV which was coming off lease. The customer needed the car detailed for the return inspection, and he described the exterior as pretty badly scratched over the entire vehicle. Filled my water tank with hot water and set out at 9:00 AM to take on the beast armed with my new toy.

After a wash and clay, I saw that the vehicle was definitely in need of a moderate compounding, and started out with the PE 7175 with a green Edge pad and Hi-Temps Heavy Cut Leveler. Some of the scratches needed a bit more bite and Hi-Temps heavy cut compound was used with an Edge black foam pad.

Final finish with PC 7424 and Menzerna FP. Sealed with Poorboys EX.

The Metabo buffer is so light weight compared to my other buffers (Dewalt 849, Makita 2779 & Milwaukee 5460) I immediately noticed how easy it was to buff in tight areas. I used much less masking tape around these areas and felt control that was pinpoint accurate and without any forearm fatigue !!! Variable speed from 600-2200 rpms and a silky smooth quiet motor. This just may be the Carrera GT of rotary buffers !!!

Love this new buffer, and from what I understand the new Metabo is improved over this older version.

It looks photoshopped, I can tell by the pixels and the fact that I have seen quite a few shops in my day.... :)

Haha, looks good Dean. Groebuck could eat cake off that. :D

Nice job Clean Dean. Do you find yourself applying a little pressure to get the scratches out because the Metabo because is so light? It's funny you never see those Saab Trailblazers as I like to call them. I got one to do in silver next week my barber just picked one up yesterday and wants the PB's treatment.

9D4E420,

I used a green Edge pad with the Heavy cut from Hi Temps to get out about 90% of the scratches, and did not have to "lean in" too much on the buffer because this products seems to last for ever and has some great initial cuttingf ability. Some of the scratches required Hi temps Heavy Cut Compound which is essentially liquid sand paper. Little extra pressure was required with this product because of its heavy cutting ability. The surface is an absolute swirl fest after using this product, and I only use it when absolutely necessary. Usually this product has enough bite to eliminate any wet sanding of deeper scratches.

I am sure that you will have great success with your Saabblazer next week, and Poorboys products are an excellent choice if paint correction is required.

Notice how cheap and GMish the interior is !!! The front seats of this Saab were leather and the back were a low quality vinyl. I am actually a fan of the higher quality vinyl seating surfaces used by Mercedes Benz, but the GM vinyl looks cheap. IMHO.

As far as the Metabo, I highly recommend this tool !!! I found mine on ebay dirt cheap !!!

Excellent work! You sure made those scratches disappear! I don't know how you managed to do all that in 31 - 37 degree weather! Brrrrr.
