Black plastic: external & internal

Question from a rookie: What can be used on the exterior black plastic that runs along the lower part of the panels of my '04 Touareg? They're currently new & in excellant shape, but the Florida sun will surely change that over time ... Also, what can be used to remove any residue that might get on these panels after waxing?

I've enjoyed "discovering" this site & have made my initial purchases ... I can feel the addiction coming on ... and my wife thanks all of you for that (for now) as her Jag will no doubt benefit.

Forgot about the internal black plastic ... I intended to use 303 on the dark dash leather, but there's also some black plastic on top of the dash as well. What should be used on this?

Sorry to have split my questions into two posts ... rookie mistake ...

onemansopinion- Welcome to Autopia, cool ride you have there.

I'd just use regular vinyl/rubber dressing on the interior plastic, 303 will be fine.

On the exterior plastic, *I* use AIO and usually top with BFII, P UPP, or even SG. Sometimes I top with a non-staining wax. I do this on Audis, Subarus, Volvos, Mazdas, Jaguars, you name it. NEVER had a problem with it. (Note since you mentioned a Jag- this is on PLASTIC, not RUBBER).

I do this instead of using external vinyl/rubber (ERV) dressings. The dressings always ran in the rain, had to be reapplied after a wash, held dirt, etc. etc.

I've done this on a few cars for MANY years, so I would've noticed if there were any long-term consequences. I wondered if the plastic, etc. would "dry out" or something, but it hasn't happened.

The best way to NOT have problems with wax, etc. stains on that kind of trim is to use stuff that doesn't leave a white residue in the first place (Blitz wax and Meg's Medallion are prime offenders, as I recall). Or mask it off with blue masking tape (like when you're polishing- many polishes WILL leave stains if they're on there long enough).

Please forgive my ignorance, but what are "AIO and usually top with BFII, P UPP, or even SG" ... I'm not yet familiar with the relevant acronyms.
