I've got a MBenz with chrome/ black plastic inserts. The plastic isn't really black any more. I've tried cleaners..vinyl protectants, etc. What can I use to make them black again?
Mothers Back to Black is a clear silicone, if I remember correctly, Forever black is a black dye..., so there is really no contest on that one
I have used both...
I agree with Wayne the Mothers is a silcone product that is great for rubber. I have used it on window rubber and the likes of that.
I have been using a product much like the one that you have provided the link to and it is the bomb. I've used it on door handles, mirrors, window moldings, etc.
I tried it about 4 months ago and it is still doing fine. just use dressing like always..., I recommend 303 or you can even use Klasse SG, Zaino, or other non-staining protectant(UV protection prefered
One last thing is make real sure that your handles or whatever you are dying is CLEAN. The dooor handles might have wax buildup! I use a 409 type of product while washing the car and brush it lightly and then wash off right away!
Let it dry before you finish the car and make sure that you have all the buldup off, the dye will stick to the plastic much better.
If you order the "kit", the cleaner is included. it is a concentrate and will last a LONG time. It is made specifically for this product, so there will be no "bonding" issues later down the road...
I used the Forever Black on Dodge Dakota last year and I am now seeing small thin spots develop. I decided to apply another coat following the original steps and it looks great!
I suppose that eventually anyone using this product might have this happen. I dont know if it was typical or if my experience was unusual. I like the stuff and I have used it since.
