Black Passat problems

Well I just got this car yesterday and decided to get out the pc and the ssr2.5 and the vm and ex-p ( oh and the green microfiber towels from scott!)

I washed the car this morning 2 times and then dried.
I applied the ssr 2.5 with a white LC pad. Did this side to side and up down up down. Did it until a white power appeared.

Took a green microfiber towel and wiped down.

Used a white lc pad with VM and did the same method.

Used a black lc pad with EX-P let is sit for about 5 mins and removed.

I still can see light scratches, webing, and some water spots in the paint.

Can someone suggest something.
I dont want to regret buying this black car

I bet it's just like my black Audi paint. It can very time consuming and I've found some products to be totally ineffective. My impression is that the polish you are using isn't strong enough for this paint. Menzerna and 1z are my go to products for marring/light scratches. I follow the 1z with a isopropyl alcohol/water wipe or Prep all wipe to get rid of the wax left behind to show me if I truly removed the scratches or not. I have yet to get dissatisfying results from it even with this method.

Menzerna is a non filling polish and I've found taking my time with IP and FPII to produce rewarding results.

Everything I know about VM is that it is a light polish that contains fillers. From everything I read about,I don't see it being effective on this hard clear coat, probably not even for marring visible only under very strong light.

It sure seems owning a black VW/Audi can be a strong love-hate relationship.
In addition to checking out the polishes above, invest in plenty of cutting (yellow LC)and polishing (white LC)pads .

Very interesting. I'm guessing the Clearcoats for VW's are quite tough. Got the exact same car that I might do this weekend. Anyone have special recommendations?

What pads and products do you have? I'm finding 1z, Menzerna and 3m Perfect It III to do ok. I suppose you may need to spend more time than normal if polishing Audi clear :dunno

Lets see I have
3 White LC pads
1 Orange LC pad
1 Black Lc Pad

I have
Mother Pre cleaner
S100 Pre cleaner
SSR 2.5
Scratch X
3m Perfect swirl mark remover for dark color cars
3m Perfect heavy duty rubbing compound
VM
EX-P
S100

would you suggest using the 3m to remove the swirls and water spots?

I am open to suggestions on using any product that will work. I did hear that the clear coats on the VW/Audi's were harder but I thought that was a good thing?

I've never had any luck with those 3m products. I threw away the smr a while ago, it couldn't do anything to any car I tried it on even along the lines of filling. I also tried the Fine Cut via rotary on a beater black car, I got loads of dust and not much finish improvement.

If you want to go with 3m, you'll probably need Perfect It III, and I understand the new VOC friendly line is Perfect It 3000.

I am partial to 1z or Menzerna though, I rarely reach for the Perfect It III

i guess I need to try the orange pad with the ssr2.5 before I buy more the 1z stuff.

Is there any other product that will work. Is SSR2.5 the right tool to get the scratches and water spots?

What speed setting do I need to use the SSR2.5? How about the VM and other products like EX-P? THANKS

I can't comment on the SSR. If you can't get all the defects out go to your VM and Last Step Product would be EX-P

One pass will not solve all your problems with any product...you need to go over the problems 2,3, or even more times if you are looking for more perfection using a PC ...if you want to get a rotary then problems and defects will disappear much quicker....you have more than enough products at your disposal right now to take care of the problems you have:)

ps..the SSR's should be worked at speeds of 5 -5.5 or even 6 to get best results

I have faced similar disappointment with some problems only to get results on the 3rd or 4th pass. SSR 2.5 is pretty good from what my experience. Try a couple more passes on 5.5-6 and see what you think then.

Don't dispair! ;)

When it comes to this paint, if it's anything like mine, multiple passes as well as A LOT of patience is definitely required.

Yeah, have all 3 on hand :yellow, orange and white. I almost never use the orange though, just plenty of yellow and white for me.

would you fella's fo ahead adn step it up to the orange pad? I just did not want to worrk about paint marring.

I don't quite understand what you are asking but maybe this can help; I'm pretty sure that generally of the foam LC pads:

yellow: most aggressive
orange: more aggressive
white: aggessive - for polishing

and for apply products like AIO:

black: less agressive
blue: ( if you want to apply wax via machine) least aggressive

If you get marring from the polishing process, which isn't all that uncommon, that's when you would finish up your polishing with a light polish like FP II and a white pad. I alwys use FP or FPII as my very last polishing step before going to sealant/wax

i was just saying do I need to try the entire process over and over again with the ssr2.5 with a wite pad or just change to a more aggressive pad like the orange one I have? I would follow the process up with the VM on a white pad the apply the ex-p to it with a black pad.

I always go least aggressive product/pad first but if you were in the middle of that and you got no results, by all means either spend more time and more passes with that product/pad combination or very gradually step up to the next aggressive product you have. I even progress by trying the next aggressive product with the white pad first before moving on to that product with the yellow ( or orange then yellow)
