That must have been some *really* low-quality film! I have *never* seen any film leave adhesive like that.

FWIW, the Malco Citra-clean full-strength would have chewed through that adhesive in a matter of mintues. We spray it on, allow it dwell, then pressure wash off. The stuff will remove old adhesive from tint (known for being a PITA) in minutes--dwell time is very important. We use it for all sorts of adhesive, but especially when removing adhesive left from old PPF installs.

Not that you will ever come across this again. :D

I would have killed for that information early in the process (and would have tried anything) because using the striping wheel worked but was very time consuming and caused a lot of post work. Oh and in the end I found 3M Wood Grain Remover turned the glue into jelly, if timed right.

The film on the car reminded us of the clear carpet protectant realtors put down when showing houses. When I get back over to the shop to finish the car I'll take pics of it, you won't believe how think this stuff was.

Again, thanks for the compliments guys!

Looking at those pics and reading how you took that clearbra off, I must award you the "Cahones The Size of Saturn" Award. I would sh*t myself looking at what it took to take it off from the 4th pic on...Wow! :goodjob

:lol

I did get the cold bucket of water followed by immense heat and instant diarrhea when I first thought the clear was burned from the wheel :up

Do you pro's make/sign any disclaimers when removing clear bra.

I have seen cb LIFT paint off as well (customer unknowingly did not know it was repainted).

i have to give you credit for finding the guts to tackle that job especially considering the type of car and the color....... kudos

It was a little nerve racking to say the least (I'm in therapy now) but hey after this, how much worse can it get?

I wonder if someone applied some oddball LSP product to the hood right before the CB install? Would sunlight do that over time? What a mystery - glad it turned out good in the end. A real nail-biter, though.

They do some kind of wipe down before applying the clear bra. I recently had my clear bra replaced after 2 years and to my horror watched paint come off the car in a small spot.

The adhesive from the clear bra had a strong bond with the paint clear coat and took the paint with it. I was going out of my mind from watching paint peeled from my car. Fortunately, we took it to a body shop, they sprayed some clear on, wet sanded it, a little polishing and it was fine. On went the new clear bra...

The clear bra installer mentioned that you can heat up the bra to remove it but this leaves a lot of adhesive on the paint afterwards to clean up. Otherwise, if you just peel it as is - it usually comes off clean but sometimes it will take the paint with it (like in my case).

Wow...I'll give you a lot of credit, I would not touch that! Great job getting that crap off man.

Oh, and more pics of that GT40 please!

We still think it wasn't clear bra but some sort of plastic carpet protectant. Nails? what nails!?!?

I have a knack for sniffing out ridiculously hot cars. I knew there was something special hiding under that car cover :hifive:

Nice work, so what's the story on the clear bras? Was the owner trying to take it off or did he have an actual installer removing it that screwed it up like that?

Great job making it look new again.

The bra was wrecked, needed to come off, so the owner had the local 3m installer come to the shop to remove it. Found out it would not come off very easily, they only had it partially removed when I showed up. At that point he felt more comfortable having me take over the removal.

Thanks!
