Hi DC!

I am new to the forum and would like to know where I can read up on to learn how to "detail, polish, wax and protect" my car. I want to know if there's any good techniques to clean the exhuast/mufflers as they are dirty. How about the space right above the wheel, where all the dirty things build up. Is there a special tool I can use to clean that underbody?

I am a 100% noob at this, and would like to know what's the waste that can go wrong, if I don't wax or polish the car, the right way. Is it fixable? How should I start? Is caring for the paint and car different in the winter than the summer? do we use different products?

Also, I would like to know if there's anyone in DC that's located in Queens, New York or Long Island that has a black car, or am willing to meetup one day and teach me the basics of waxing and detailing. I really want to learn from someone rather then read a bunch of things and still don't know what to do. Any NYC DC member recommendations?

Do you guys wax in the winter? or just once in the fall and then again after the snow goes away. What do you guys do in the winter, when there's salt on the road? do you rinse the car with water after each drive?

What's the best product to start with for beginners? I heard alot about poorboy, but is that good for beginners? I also got a pack of microfiber towels from costco, are those good enough?
:help:
Thank You so much!

Not sure about NYC, but I'll try and answer some of your questions..........

Yes I wax in the winter. As long as it's warm 50+ degrees or so. Or you have a warm garage. It's a great thing to do mid winter to protect the car.

No I don't rinse the car after each drive. I'll live with crap on the car till I can clean it properly. Rinsing and drying will add marring. So it's either a complete wash or nothing for me. A few times a winter I will go to a "touchless" wash that has an undercarrige spray as well to clear the salt and crap from underneath.

For wheel weel cleaning, there are brushes available from our sponsors made for that job.

The micro available from costco IMHO is garbage. (once you see what good micro is) I have a couple of packs of the stuff that is now relegated to engine compartment, wheels and door jambs. The have tags (big scratch hazard) older ones (not sure of newer ones) were sewn with nylon fishing line (another scratch hazard)

Some of the stuff you will need for general care...........

Good car wash soap
Good wash mitt (i like the dread lock style)
2 buckets
grit guard(s) I use one in each bucket (mebbe overkill)
2+ big micro drying towels (waffle weave etc)
6-12 good microfiber for removing polish/wax/sealer etc
sealer or wax. your choice
quick detailer (i also use this for a drying aid as well)
applicator pads

Optional:
Glaze
pc or flex

Poorboys has some great products, and if you're not sure you can order samples from our sponsors and try em without a large investment. As well as get some freat advice.

Enjoy and fair warning: IT'S ADDICTIVE

ronkh,

thanks for your advice :) When you say quick detailer, what exactly is that? i heard sealant is better than wax, is that true? so i put sealant first and then wax? is the way i put wax on a car the same as putting sealant on the car?

thanks!
