I'm just curious. What did you use the high pressure washer on? I just used one on my wife's pickup, but that's because it spent a week in Montana.
What would be the need on a routine car?

Thanks.

I always use a pressure washer, it doesnt matter how dirty a vehicle is.
It cleans the underbody better than a hose can, it makes cleaning brake dust of wheels much easier, it gets a lot of stuff thats stuck to the paint off before your initial wash so theres less chance of scratching or swirling the paint, and IMO it speeds up the washing and rinsing process all together.

Using a pressure washer looks more professional than just washing with a hose (which IMO really makes a big difference, whether the pressure washer actually makes a difference or not)

And it could just be all in my head, but i swear regular washing with a pressure washer as opposed to a regular hose makes the paint stand out much better. I should know, because i had to do washes without my pressure washer for a week or two because the wand broke. I wasnt happy.

It won't lift any previous wax/sealer coatings? Or is this just reserved for the fresh job?

CleanDean...thanks, nothing like compliments from the man himself.

sog....i dont see why it should. I keep the flow of water fanned out pretty wide so it distributes the force over a large area, you can actually put your hand right up next to the nozzle and it just feels like a light breeze. However if i adjusted the nozzle so that the stream of water was focused is 1 small area, like a stream, it would probably damage the paint. Heck, it would probably give you blisters if you aimed it at your skin.

I do bring the "fan" of water in a little tighter for the underbody and wheels though, but still, nothing that would hurt you, even if you put your hand up next to it.
