I think I will now give up on the two bucket system to simplify my wash regime. It seems no matter how diligent I am with my technique, after every wash, I notice some little scratch and cobwebs appearing from nowhere. I know, there is no such think as a perfect finish, as Mike Philipps said "REDUCING THE POTENTIAL" is all we can hope for.



If it keeps going at this rate, I figure I will need to utilize a rotary on an annual basis, so after ten years my clearcote will virtually be gone.



What are your thoughts PLEASE?
 
Black=Obsession for me.I agree with mike Phillips.Its really hard to maintain a black car especially if its daily driven.I maintain mine with Poliseal,rmg,FK425 and ol' reliable Collinite waxes=) Goodluck
 
I agree, my wife bought a black jetta and since we have no garage the car is outside 24/7 so I have all but given up except for minor correction on the horizontal surfaces because its impossible to keep it up.



The vertical surfaces still look great but then again it gets buffed every time it gets washed.

A foamgun makes a big difference, as does buying new towels every couple of months. When I used to have more time on my hands, I could keep my car at 100% by RMG and waxing monthly, with a light rotary buff twice a year (end of winter, end of summer).



Trying to keep a daily driven black car 100% perfect is a one-way trip to a heart attack though.
 
Nothing looks better than a well detailed black car, but owning one will make you

Nothing can look better than black. It is that one color that if you put the time in, you will see the results. It is just awesome. :)



With that said you need to than place the car in the garage . : ) Just kidding! I like having a black car but "it is" a challange to keep pristine. I find using glazes and having a good washing regimine helps, but you must set your expectations.
 
As a daily driver black is not ideal. I don't know why I bought another black dd, especially a Honda one. I will never seek perfection on a black dd, or any dd for that matter. It's too much to ask imo.



I use more than the recommended soap amount, Accumulator patented jigging methods, blot dry, seems to work alright. I haven't looked at under the 500w halos recently though.



Once I get rid of some more of the major marring, I am going to use a RMG routine, perhaps with a minor 106ff light cut polishing once a year. Any more is a waste imo.
 
musicdjs- I agree with themightytimmah- get a foamgun and learn how to use it (it's not quite as simple as it might appear). Hey, I can't wash *any* color without a foamgun and have things end up looking marring-free. (If you've never read my "Accumulator's Non-Marring Wash Technique" thread, you might oughta check it out...and I do that stuff even on *silver*)



Your plan to ditch the two-bucket method is, IMO, a step in the exact *wrong* direction. I'd try to *improve* your wash regimen lest things get a whole lot worse in a hurry. To use your own words (or rather those of Mike Phillips), the goal is to "minimize the potential" and giving up on proper wash techniques isn't gonna do that.



You think it's depressing now, just wait until it *really* looks like [crap], you won't be happier ;)
 
I owned and carefully maintained black vehicles for over thirty years. It took me that long to wise up. Now we have a white Tacoma and a white Ram Hemi. Life is a lot better.



I still have two black Harleys, because that is the color god intended Harleys to be.



Oh, I learned to stay away from the metallics too. They are a real b---h to match if you need to have body work done..

I have three black vehicles. The newest is about a year old and is my DD. Even though subjected to cruel and inhumane parking conditions at work (which requires washing it every fourth to fifth day) the car only has minor marring thanks to wash techniques learned here.



No other color looks as stunning as black for about the three minutes that it's clean.

so the next question is , what is the next best colour to have instead of black ?

I reckon white is too safe and it is really hard to make it look good...

Medium greys are pretty easy to upkeep and you can get pretty good reflections.
 
I was doing the 2 bucket method and kept getting micro scratches. Then I took Accumulators advice and bought a foam gun. That was the end of my troubles.

Then you would think an ONR wash would be worse, RIGHT???
 
I have a black daily driver - NEVER AGAIN. Less than five minutes after a wash, it either scratches or looks like it hasn't been washed in weeks. It looks best in overcast or evening conditions, when all flaws are hidden.



On the other hand, my brother has this silver volvo s40. We clayed, hand-polished (scratchX), and waxed it with collinite last november. He came home for father's day today, I said, your car looks good, you wash it recently? No - he hasn't washed it since we last worked on it. Subjected to typical Los Angeles conditions, part time outside, part time inside parking. Sheesh.



Silver is my next color!
