Black Daily Driven Car

It looks like all of us enjoys washing their car weekly. I feel like it's a job. LOL. Now who on here doesn't wash there car every week. This one would be interesting.

I sure don't wash our vehicles weekly (OK, I do clean the wheels now and then). Maybe every other week on my wife's A8, but I'll often let the dog-haulers go longer than that unless they start looking really dirty.

Eh...well, in the winter I do clean them about once a week.

If there's a reason to clean something I'll do it, but I really mean it when I tell people that "life's not a car show". There was a time when I really kept the cars *spotless* all the time, and I look back on that as a big waste of time.

Wash it when it's dirty eough, clay it when it's contaminated, polish it when it's marred, wax it before it needs waxing.

As always, Accumulator's advice is spot-on.

My black daily driver is now garage-kept, which is a blessing and makes my life so much easier.

On the average I wash my car every 7 to 10 days. Sometimes more frequently if it's been raining. I have discovered the hard way that if I do not attend fairly quickly to the water spots that form after a shower, I will end up with etching in the paint. :(

I clay on the average of twice a year. I follow-up the claying with a paint cleaner or machine-applied polish, if correction is needed.

What wax/sealant looks good on black? To be honest, every wax and sealant I have used on my black car looks good. For a relatively inexpensive sealant, I recommend Mother's Reflections, which can be purchased through Amazon.com for only $11 a bottle. It's easy to apply and remove and confers deep reflectivity on my black car. I like it. I don't use it much anymore, though, as I'm going through my boutique wax experimentation stage. I particularly like Pinnacle Souveran; but it's prohibitively expensive, and durability is not very good. If you are tempted, wait until AutoGeek offers it on BOGO.

For a paint cleaner, you might get yourself a bottle of Four Star Ultimate Paint Cleanser. Dom Colbeck of Dodo Juice recommends that the paint on a daily driver be cleaned every 3 months or so. This seems like good advice. Certainly the car should be cleansed every six months. Another possibility is to use a cleaner wax regularly, topped with your preferred wax/sealant (see, e.g., Your Daily Driver).

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers,

Al

I don't have black, but CC is CC.

In the summer I wash as often as once a week, but if life gets too busy the cars end up last in line. Sometimes I just can't get to them for a 3 or 4 weeks. Sucks, but such is life.

In the winter in MN it may be months between washings. I try to hit the touchless and coin-ops, but time and weather play a role. No use blasting the car clean just to drive it on a salty, mucky road. It also sucks to wash a car at any temp below -0F as the doors/locks/everything freezes.

I try to *not* drive my garage-queen in the rain. My other cars are fair game. I try too get the bug-jerky off with in a week or two as any longer may lead to etching. I use 845 on the leading edges of my DDs now and that does help.

I usually have the cleanest, shiniest cars in a given place/parking lot. Even if I would consider my car filthy, it is still at the top it seems.
