Black Carrera GT

This car has been seriously tracked. The front bumper has enough chips on it that it would need a new paint job in six months. Both doors right at the front have many micro chips all along from top to bottom. He is using this car for what it was made for. It would have been perfect if he clear shielded a three inch strip on the front of the doors. Those vents in the front travel along the doors then feeding the intake vents at the rear of the doors. Amazing design for overall vehicle performance but not paint protection.

Sweet ride and a good turnaround! So you like the new 3M line of polishes? I have the compound it´s called Trizact 50077 here in Europe. I also have the extra fine cut, named 84309. But I havent tested the Ultrafina(3M Anti-Hologramm Politur 50383)yet. Don´t think I am going to test it beacuse I have like 5 litres of Menzerna finishing polish

This is what happens on the race track without hitting anything. If you think you can spend any amount of time on a race track with other cars and keep your car in "better than new condition", you are sadly mistaken.

Why do you think EVERY INDY Car, Champ Car, NASCAR stocker, Formula 1 car, etc. is repainted after each race? Are they using the wrong LSP?

If you can keep your car pristine on the track, you are runing parade laps. If you are worried about your paint on the track, you are driving too slow.

You are confusing a "track dog" (the Cobra) with a high performance vehicle that is enjoyed on the street and track *and* well maintained, with yes, some paint chips, etc. that may happen. And you are correct "Better than new" is not possible for a frequently tracked car, my mistake for the overstatement.

You picked the wrong site to tell people they are sissies for wanting to keep a $400k Porsche well maintained.

i agree. i put a clear bra on my 07 vette. i don't worry about it now because i can keep it looking great and drive it.

p.s. most race vehicles have clear bra's (the whole front of the car, some even windshields) covered with 3M or the like. not every car is painted after every race.:D

So today I started at 9:00 and ended at 12:30 so about 7.5 hours total with a few breaks here and there.

Today I attacked more pesky scratches with the 3M Extra Cut and final polished with the 3M Ultrafina, then I put on a coat of Meg's 16. I also cleaned the interior and detailed the engine bay while I was waiting for the wax to sit. I let it cure for about a hour and a half.

I cleaned the interior leather which is pretty much the whole interior with APC mix 15/1 water to cleaner and the floor with a stronger mix. Dressed with Poorboy's Leather Stuff. Cleaned windows with chamois and microfibre. What a tight interior to get into to clean!

Most pics are inside with and without the garage door open. I wish I could take it out but the battery was dead like Saddam. It was cold today too and overcast, -11 degrees celsius or 12.2 degrees for you guys south of the border.

Hope you guys enjoy. Any comments are welcome, ohh I know the dressing on the centre console is sloppy I fixed that. I'm on a tight schedule.

I've done Gallardos and 911s, GT2s but man do I have to say this car is next level. Simply amazing and it was a pleasure to work on even though it was not easy.

I will say it again..... YOU LUCKY B@STAD!!!!!!! LOL

Totally agree on that :grinno: Don't mention about detailing one of this car, I don't even remembering seeing one of this on the road here at my place.

Amazing work on the GT, the before condition was horrible and I really cannot understand how can someone let such a nice car turned into that condition.

Did you go from the extra cut compound to the Ultrafina SE immediately? Did the Ultrafina SE manage to take out the buffer swirls created by the extra cut compound?

Very nice!! Nothing like PCCB's and I should know as I have them on my Porsche!!

Looks very nice, but some of the shots in the garage just don't really show the high gloss, only a few did which show it well. A few shots the finish looked a bit "softer" in regards to the polish. It's hard to capture good shots of black inside a garage.

So you liked the 3M Ultrafina?

You did a really great job on that car!! :wow: These finishes can be a bit on the soft side.

Try driving one of these. The clutch take some getting used to as that too is ceramic!

Yes I did go from the Extra Cut straight to the Ultrafina. It took out all the correction swirls without a problem. This is my second time using the Ultrafina. After the first time using it on GM black paint I was sold. Great stuff, you should give it a try.

It is a nice car but it definitely isn't a garage queen, this car gets driven hard and this summer I will supposedly get to feel it in person, can't wait.

Good to see another Ultrafina SE user on the boards! I started using it at the shop this month and really like it on Black BMW's (just finished a used 740iL and starting another identical black 740iL).

I have the Extra Cut, but haven't tried it in a 2 step process. I might try it on this next black 740iL that I'm starting this morning.

Here's the last one I did with my final step being Ultrafina SE. I topped that with #26 for the showroom finish.

Thanks guys for your evaluation of Ultrafina!:up

I'll have to give it a try once I stop by the supplier to P/U some Ultrafina and pad to match.

Interesting as to speed they want using this product and also how they want it finishing wet.

I guess it's time for a side-by-side between Ultrafina and P085RD.

Looks great!! Any shots with the halogens?

I too have heard great things about the ultrafina SE, but haven't had time to pick some up. Deanski, what is the recommended RPM? Knowing 3M, it's probably 1700. :D I would think that I would finish at around 1200 RPM's with a product like that. Funny how I can say that without using the product--sort of bull-headed on my part.

Here is a video by 3M showing using thier products including UltrafinaSE...it show from sanding the paint to final finish with Uktrafina...

Logging in

its just a quick video but informative

I finished with the Ultrafina at 1300rpm. It was tough for me to get some decent shots because one the car was dead and two I had some strict time constraints. I really had to get back to the shop to get few more jobs finished. I think 7.5 hours was rushing it for this car. I will definitely get some outdoors shots this summer where it will be more bright.

Someone has already posted a link to the 3M Webinar for the Ultrafina. I also have the link for both product introduction and the same panel repair.
