heys guys, I am new to the boards and have posted in the newbie area. thought i might post here as well and prob get more hits. got some good advice in the newbie area for my 98 4runner with neglected paint(bad swirls and some scratches).

here is what im looking at so far

megs DACP #83
megs#9
nxt
s100
using a PC

and megs scratch X.

what do you think?

Hey welcome to DC!
1. I would wash it first with Black Magic car wash (guys this stuff suds like no other!) or Poor Boys Super Slick and suds, with a soft mitt using two bucket method. or Mother gold

2. Then dry with Waffle Weave mf.

3. Clay with detail spray as lubricant

4. I would then use your PC with #83 with a Red Meguiars or another cut pad on speed 3 to spread then 6 to work in, (remember to work it in, it may take several minutes a panel) 3-2inch lines at first to prime pad on pad and 2 more on , should take care of swirls and dullness, same on wheels

4.5. If some scratches are very bad use Scratch X first then #83

5. Remove with a MF towel

6. follow with NXT with polishing pad on 3-5 speed (for a slight cleaning action whitch may clear up any hazing left by #83 (I have never encountered such) and on wheels probably by hand for ease

7. top with S100 by hand (thin coats!)

8. Running boards and plastic use Adams VRT, stuff is great with a matte shine

9. Same as above on tires if looking for subtle shine but great look, Armor All in wells (cheap and not bad) or use Dupont Teflon Tire shine on tires looks great and readliy available in most areas

10. Stoners invisible glass on glass and mf

I did a 4runner a couple of weeks ago so hope this should help!

very helpful andrew. i should remove product by hand and not with the pc? is teh scratch x application done by hand as well? If i cant find Adams VRT I was thinking of using MOthers Back to black. is it too cold out to do this if its around 45 degrees? what is good for the leather...i cleaned it with mothers eather cleanner and then hit it with the megs gold class leather wipes. the leather seems shiny. I wonder if it has a coating on it. Other than that its in great shape. a scuff here and there but no tears or anything.

Another good over-the-counter dressing is Teflon Tire Shine. You can get it at AutoZone. I would suggest using the ScratchX by hand over the worst of the scratches. Like I said before, that stuff can be a bear to use sometimes, but you can get good results with it. I really hope you get it looking to your standards and that you can post some pics for all of us to see. P.S. I'm a big Toyota fan!

thanks jared. I am confident i'll get it too the level i want and I am a big toyoyta fan also. Cant beat styling with quality.

Hey, I would go with Jared on the tireshine! I would use Meguiars Medallion Leather cleaner/conditioner. It smells great, easy to use and low to no sheen (depending on how you buff it.) Also any of those wipes usually dont leave a uniform shine. I would use a damp sponge and leather conditioner for the seats. Also with the mothers Back-to-black, watch out on paint I am not sure if it is safe for the paint.

PS I want pics too!

Hello

My thoughts:

I have used mothers back to black. My opinion is that it was a waste of 5 bucks. I had no luck with it. For a tire dress my favorite is Poorboys BnB but if your buying locally Eagle One tire wet is a good product. If i were you i would substitute the nxt for megs #80 speed glaze. I get my meguiars products from NAPA. I order them from them and they are in the next day! I would do this:

Wash
Clay
Wash
#83 DACP
#80 Speed Glaze
S100

This is just my opinion and there are many great ways. You will have to experiement a little bit until you find what you want. I would also recomend picking up some poorboys spray and wipe waterless car wash. Its amazing. #9 will not remove the hazing from #83.. i think #80 will.

HOpe this helps

thanks guys. Greg...why do you suggest #80 over NXT? ARe your megs products cheaper thru napa. I was going to get em directly from megs online. Im still confused on what i can get locally that would work well for my fender flares and running boards which are that drak hard plastic. Today is touchup paint day because i cant stand the chips. Its too cold to do much else. Now I have been offered a chance to meet with Dennis Hollaway form mothers one on one when i Get to California. I was gonna go to loews today and buy my PC but now im not sure what to do. Wait??? Dont wait???

I suggested #80 over the nxt because i have seen 83 and 80 work together and it was amazing. I dont know if NXT would get rid of the hazing after #83. I would definatly pick up the PC you will never regret it.

A good bit. I don't think the deep crystal system uses any swirl mark removers. You'd be better off going the other route IMHO.

yeah im sure youre right. i just bought my PC today and it might be 50 degrees on monday so that could be teh day. now i just have to find the professional megs stuff locally.

Have you gotten any pads for your PC yet? I don't know how far along you are with this whole detailing bug, so that's why I ask. Make sure to get some quality pads, and don't use the same pad for more than one product during a detail. The pad that comes with the PC is okay I suppose, just be aware that there a better ones out there that are more suited for what you're wanting to do.

P.S. I may be totally wrong, but didn't you say you were in NY?? If so, you may wanna give Poorboy Steve a call. He's up that way and he might can direct you to where you can get some good stuff nearby. :)

I dont understand how substituting a polish for a sealant makes sense.

Reverse the order dont substitute it....
