Black 2009 Genesis Sedan, major paint correction

RaskyR1

Rasky's Auto Detailing
I did this on a while ago but haven't gotten around to posting it yet. Paint was rock hard on this thing, one of the hardest I've done and I ended up spending more time on it than planned.

Process:

Wash - Foamed with OPC/CGCW followed by 2BM wash and CGCW

Wheels - P21S Gel and various brushes

Tires - OPC, dressed with Hyper Dressing 3:1

Clay - Blackfire Clay and M34 as lube

Initial Correction Step - M105 on the GG6 with Surbuf pads

Intermediate polishing step - D300/MF on the GG6

Finishing Step - 106fa via rotary and Blue LC pads

Exhaust tips - Optimum Metal Polish

Protection - Blackfire Wet Diamond

Several deep RIDS that ran vertically all over the car, this was the worst of them. NOTE: For all of you water blade users out there...let this be a lesson on why you shouldn't use them! ;)

I stayed away from the panel bend...not worth the risk in sanding.

Looks great.

Question, what is the build date on the car?

Month and year, sort of have some things going regarding Hyundia, would be interested in knowing.

Thanks guys! Tom I think the car had around 35k on it.

Thanks Ron! The owner is dropping off his wife's car tomorrow so I'll grab that info for you. This is the car that had the "paint issue" you and I spoke about a while back. ;)

That Flake is awesome!!! At first it looks like dust, but the final shots really bring out the flake colors.

Beautiful paint, made even better by your hands!

Man that looks absolutely gorgeous. It's too bad you're in Minneapolis; I totally need help undoing some self-induced scratches on my brand new Genny (2200 miles on it). I'm too utterly ashamed, embarrassed, and disgusted with myself reveal what I did, but I have to ask, does anyone know a detailer in Austin Texas who does similar work?

Thanks!

Wow, looks really good! Oddly enough I am also in Shakopee... Do you work for a shop?

No, it's my own business that I only do on the side as I have a full time career...more of a hobby now than anything. ;)

Look up user CosminTX.

Thanks Rasky. I'll go ahead, for the amusement of the detail professionals, tell folks what I did. I've been hand washing my new Genny like a good little soldier, and for some idiotic reason I used the back of a sponge with scouring pad to get rid of bugs. This of course when I even had bug and tar remover handy, which, for some inexplicable reason, I didn't bother using. Predictably, it turned out looking like horse dung (but there are no more dried, splattered bugs!!!)

I am a moron, I know. Now I'm just trying to recover from my moron-ness.

You're not the first person to use those on a car. ;)

The scratches those sponges instill into the paint will most likely require wet sanding to remove them fully. Prepare yourself for a large bill to do this job! $$$$$

Well the question now is how much is detailing vs. how much is re-painting. I guess time will tell. Thanks again for your responsiveness.

Did you only use it on the front? Have pics?

No picts atm but I will post some later. Yes, it's only on the front bumper. There is a bit on the hood as well. So at a minimum, front bumper and hood. I'll check with the person you mention, but it's going to have to wait a bit. I've got a lot of things I need to take care of (budget wise) before I write a more than $500 check.
