As some of you already know I tackled the swirl/scratches.... here are some pics

Here is a before picture of the top of the car after clayed...

Here is an after picture with just IP&FPII....Notice the swirl/scratches still there

Now here is where I tried and experiment. Mixed up the IP & 3MPIIIRC then followed up with FPII & 3MPIIIMG. I started out with the yellow pad and worked it in with speed set at 3 and then bumped it up to 6. I skipped the orange pad completely.

I also did the hood but I still see some random scratches. All the swirls are gone as far as I can tell. I keep hearing about DACP should I attempt this to see if that can get rid of these minor scratches.

If you've got 3M PI IIIRC then DACP won't do anything more for you.

Since you're dealing with some hard paint you might want to try some 4" pads. The smaller pad won't bog down the PC and will be more effective at removing defects. Here is a link for a couple of sources for the pads and correct size backing plate:

Using a PC on some (hard) paints can take a lot of time and often a rotary is the best (quicker) answer.

cenwesi, you're dealing with both hard and black paint, that's a tough job for someone new to polishing by PC, but it looks like you're making progress. Sometimes you need to work on just one panel a day until you get it "close enough" for your standards. Some spread the correction process over the course of days and weeks doing small sections at a time. That way you're not overwhelmed by trying to do the whole car in one day.

I've never used a wool pad with the PC, but I'd get some more advice on that before trying it. I think the 4" pads are a better solution to the defects you're left with.

yep, you said it right...Black paint and being newbie is no joke. I think this might take me several days. Good thing is tomorrow it is suppose to rain all day i have free time on my hand to play again. I will atempt it again tonight. I might apply some MORE pressure to see if that helps.
