Bird poop... removing..

Hey all..

I hear a lot of people talking about removing bird poop with QD and an MF towel. my question is... do u just take the QD and spray it on the poop, and wipe away? or do you spray it off with a hose first and then QD?? I don't exactly want a lot of bird poo in my MF towels, even IF I'm gonna wash them...

Duck, I ususally scrape of the mass of it with my fingernail while on lunch with my work buddies. We always use my tailgate and XM radio for 45 minutes or so everyday. I'll do a quick walk around, call it a poo investigation, its been so hot here the last few weeks, any poop that hits the deck usually dries instantly, like an egg hitting the frying pan. So, I'll scrap off the said matter with the 'ol finger (sandwich in the other hand), one of these days i'll get luck and get it while its still wet! If it has dried, i will always use the QD after the finger swipe.

Duck, of course im kidding...We would all be so fortunate to be able to hit the poop with a hose after it hits the deck, but were not! Were usually at work or shopping when we get nailed. I had a huge as* seagull get me the other day, right below the doorhandle, and it ran, and ran, and ran, all the way to the body molding. This thing was about the size of a baseball on steriods.....I just used some QD, and an old MF. I mean what are you gonna do > I guess you could rinse the MF off with the hose after you get home.....Were really rather defenseless when it comes to poop and MF's !!

Buy yourself a bottle of Poorboy's Bird Sh#t remover. I keep a bottle in each car. The stuff is amazing for removing bird poop. Also, some QDs seem to be better than others for removing poop. The Mother's QD isn't bad for it but overall, you can't beat the PB stuff.

JayC, is the PB's stuff an alcohol based product as described above? What makes it better, in your opinion? Is it better at removing, better at preventing etch, what? :nixweiss

I have no idea if it's alcohol based. It doesn't really smell like it is. Steve would know that better than anyone else, maybe he'll comment.

What I like about the PB stuff is it makes removing the stuff simple. Spray it, wait 5-10 seconds and wipe it and the stuff is gone. No scrubbing or second applications.

Like I said, some QDs work good for removing poo also but I got into a situation earlier this year where my car was a target for birds and was getting 5-7 hits a day and the PB stuff became an invaluable assett.

My guess is the bird Sh#t remover is a more concentrated version of S&W works great on those bird bombs and i cant smell any alcohol or solvents in it :)

In that thread I understand the idea behind the alcohol as drying up the crap, or neutralizing the acid in it first so residue left behind even after removal of the "bomb" cannot continue to eat into the clear coat. I think it meant also that it is important to not polish and/or seal/wax the area right away so the alcohol has time to entirely evaporate.

Whether or not some or all QDs do the same or if this really is important or not, I can't say.:nixweiss Maybe the Poorboys product acts in the same way as this procedure with just one wipe.

i don't remember where I learned this, but it has always worked perfectly for me. I keep a pack of tissues in the glove box with QD. I attack the mess as soon as discovered. I spray the poop, to wet it. then place a tissue on it partly crumpled. Spray the tissue a couple of shots. Another tissue another spray. Maybe up to 4 or 5 tissues. The goal is to make a wet blob that will make the whole area including the poop wet. Let it sit for about 5 minutes.

Now, just pinch from the outside edge towards the center while picking up the mess. Usually gets it all with NO marks.

I keep some water in my car now for trying to wash some of that junk off first. Then I spray with QD and genly pick it up with a towel. I finish off by wiping the white stuff off with more QD.

Don't rub if possible and get it off the vehicle as soon as possible. I will spray a lot of qd on a microfiber towel and dab the poop lightly. (no rubbing back and forth) Eventually the poop will come up on the towel.

If your car is freshly waxed, then spray qd on your car and on a mf towel or tc towel and wipe off. Its easier that way.

I have an old empty vingar jug in my emergency detail kit in the trunk ( jug is the size of a AIO bottle ) and I have a few new yellow flanellete towels in the trunk.

I wet a towel well then hold it on the poop to soften it then QD on a MF. I rewax / address the area later at home.

The flanellette is very soft and seems to hold the water well without it running down the door ect. I don't rub with it .. just hold it on the poop to soften. Flanelette + water = Stool Softener.. do we need a patent on this??

BSR is as noted above a concentrated form of Spray and Wipe and it sure doesn't act like an alcohol based product. One thing for sure and that is that it works.

Im not positive that thats what it is, though i belive that if it contained any solvents or such that steve would have a warning in the description that it will remove wax and to rewax after using the product. I love poorboys paint friendly products :xyxthumbs

I'm going to try the IPA technique and I read I could even follow with a little baking soda solution to help further neutralize the acid in the crap

I, too, think the S+W and BSR work great! However, lately there have been SWARMS of birds (Probably has to do with all the birdseed a certain lady is giving them) and of couse, they gotta lighten their weight before flying off, so there's always some "thank yous" left behind. I like my S+W and BSR too much to be using it up this fast, so I've recently started to carry a bottle of QEW and some cloths to address this. It seems to work well for all but the "black and hard" cr@p, but even this can come off if you let the QEW soak it a while. Much cheaper, but I don't know if it neutralizes the acid.

Hmmmm....most detergents are alkaline, which would help to neutralize the acid, so QEW sounds like a good idea...guess I am going to take some litmus paper to the S&W and BSR and see what I find...

I agree w/QEW use for bird bombs! In a spray bottle it does wonders removing them and as a prespray for bugs before regular washing.

I1:)
