Bird Poop Etched Paint

It's pretty hard to photograph due to all the reflections, but I think you can see the spot in the photo?

It was purple bird crap that was left on the paint, and has permanently marred the paint. To remove the mark I tried detergent, claybar, and WD-40, all to no avail. I then tried a cleaner wax from 3M with my PC. Is there anything else to try shy of wet sanding the area? Would wet sanding even get rid of the spot?

Thanks in advance.

Yikes, sorry to see that. In many cases such etching is too deep to safely remove. But anyhow...there's a huge range of products that are more aggressive than the cleaner wax but far less aggressive than wetsanding.

If it were mine I'd use an aggressive polish followed by a milder one and then live with what's left. I'm just not in favor of thinning the clearcoat excessively over cosmetic blemishes.

I have a very deep bird etch, you can see the white (primer?) in little holes in it. What can I do without repainting the hood?

Try Optimum Hyper Compound applied by a 4" cutting pad on a PC followed by Optimum Polish applied with 4" polishing pad on a PC. This method worked well on my Audi's hard pait. Just remember, Optimum has a long working time, so patientce is most important.

No I mean the bird crap basically ate all the way through my paint, but it didn't eat straight through; it ate at little angles so there is some clear that is hovering over nothing essentially. I know I need to just sand it all away, but how safe is that? I'm talking sand down to primer and touch up-- and this is a quarter-sized spot on the middle of the hood.

Before you say work with what you have, it's basically an all-WHITE quartersized spot on BLACK paint :/

Yeah, unless you're skilled with an airbrush I'd probably plan on having a paint shop spot in a repair.

I'd still try polishing it it though, maybe you'll get lucky.

I've had limited success (improved the look but did not rid the etch completely) using a PC + LC Yellow + Menzerna PG 2-3X followed with FP or FP II 2X. A few days later went back at it again 1-2X for a little more improvement and then I quit on fear that I did enuff polishing. I then hit it with multiple coats of Mothers S&G (a good filler but today I would use Z-5 PRO) and then sealed it with P21S carnauba.

How long (hours/days) was the BB on your paint?

I used a 4" SFX cutting pad w/ ssr2.5 with 20-25lbs of pressure and it didn't budge after 2 passes. I don't wanna lose my clear so I'm just leavin it for now. I'm debating getting the hood repainted because there's a ton of crap all over it (no pun intended) all etched in the paint.

I'd say it was on the paint for a week plus. This was when it was my dad's car and he wasn't very autopian.
