Biggest Goof You Made Before Autopia?

1. Thought Armor All was the best

2. Bleach-white was safe for tires and rims

3. Multiple dippings in one wash bucket

4. Ghetto shine was where it was at

5. Baby diapers were the bomb

With Aloha,

Wrong tools, wrong technique, wrong products, and of course

the big 'A' (Armor All) on anything that wasn't painted.

But I'm feeling much better now.:p

(W3) wrong tools, wrong technique, wrong products. I'ts been a fun Autopia education though.

By far the biggest mistake I made was back in 1994 I bought a brand new Black 1994 Ford Probe GT (hey, it was a hot car back in the day!). The first time I washed it I took it to a self serve car wash bay and used a brush (:o ) on it. Man, what a mess that was. It created these huge scratches down the left and right side of the paint. It took me two whole days of rubbing it out with some Meguiars products and I ended up with a sore shoulder for a week. Every once in a while a friend will bring up that incident by saying something like "remember that time you used the brush at the self serve on your brand new BLACK '94 Probe? What a dumbass!" and bring back the shakes all over again!

That's my horror story.

Bought a brand-new black Tacoma 4x4 Xcab SR5 in '99, and only washed it regularly and applied Turtle Wax Emerald Series...no polish, no prep. After one winter (including using the brush at self washing bays), there were swirls on the whole truck, grit all over the rocker panels which I never took off and my non-clearcoated polished aluminum rims were also destroyed!!!

Damn if I knew then what I know now. I treat my '91 Yota XCab like I should have with the '99.

I'm with Jeremyp111, first wash on my black 02 Mustang GT i used the brush...thought nothing about it at the time i was doing it. on the drive home, i did have this unsettling feeling...:(
