Bigger orbital buffer

If you work out the surface area of larger pads, and the amount of pressure you'd have to use to get an equivalent loading (pounds per square inch) I think you'll find that even going from 6" pad to 10" pad makes it a LOT harder work to get good results.

are you sure you want bigger?

I have a GEM orbital polisher. It uses terrycloth bonnets and is one heavy sucker (18 pounds). It's great for applying waxes and polishes. I believe they do have a website..you'll have to search for it.

i have a 12" orbital polisher. got it from snap on a few years ago. dont use it much though. only time realy is on like big trailers, motor homes, box trks. stuff like that. you guys use orbiltal polishers to wax cars other than a pc? i outlawed them in my shop a long time ago. they leave swirls and to do a good job you have to walk around the car and cut in everywhere anyway. cant stand orbital w/terry cloth bonnet. i can wax a car by hand in 20-30 min. what time does that really save me? hand wax is the only way to go

I want a orbital that is like the PC in it takes foam pads, etc. I don't want one of the ones you pick up at wal-mart. I want one that looks like a PC or a Makita buffer but is an orbital. I know there has to be atleast one out there like that.

You might want to look at Meguairs D.A. polisher. I takes foam pads and is great. I use it a lot when i don't need the rotary. It is more powerful then the orbital, but it won't swirl or burn. I have been using it for about a year and really like. The only thing i wont use it for is heavy compounds, it does not create enough heat.

It has a $150 Meguiar's sticker on it though, make sure you take care of that sticker! Heck I'm tempted to buy another one just for that performance sticker! Adds 1000 OPM! hehe

I hear that if you put a sticker on anything- Car,truck, bike, computer, or even a PC.......... I t will add 50 Horse power:confused: Just what I heard LOL

I did not know that it was the same machine. I know that they have an orbital buffer and a d.a.

the orbital goes for 150.00 and the d.a goes for 200+.

hope i didn't get ripped

If you want a DA action machine that is bigger than the PC, then look at AEG. I saw and AEG DA sander that was real BIG. Look here:

I think it is too big and powerful. I have seen and handled one, it is at least 50% bigger than this type of DA sander produced by other companies. It is a real hand full. You can change the velcro plate from 125mm to 150 mm, thus use bigger pads.

150mm = 6"

460watt -> 4 amps @ 115 volts (PC is 3.75 amp I think)

That makes this puppy very similar to the PC.

For the life of me, I can't understand why you would want a bigger pad than 6".

I've used 6,7,9, and 11" buffers in my fairly short detailing career (15.5 years), and the PC is the perfect size for me. I like the fact that the 6" pad is very manueverable, extremely controllable and that it allows you to see exactly what's going on at all times.

When I had bigger buffers (still have most of them), I felt like I was driving the Titanic in a kiddie pool. I was always slopping product over trim pieces, etc. Plus, I had to really push on the d@mn thing to get any decent results (if working with a neglected finish).

The 6" pad allows me to sneak under mirrors (on door panels), get close enough to the trim pieces with out getting sloppy, and I can cover large surfaces with great control and precision. I have 3 PC's, and one is almost 6 years old & still going strong!

For my money, nothing beats the PC. Sure, you can't cover the car in one pass, but I'll take finesse and control over brawn and mass any day!
