Big Lots buy of the week: 3M Performance Finish

I went for the 3M wax, I just can't help myself ! Also bought " Kit quick detail spray for motorcycles". It was $2 for 16oz. How could I go wrong?
 
has anyone tested the durability of this yet? any pictures? pm me or post it up!!! Thanks! You think its worth keeping this in a detailing stockpile? or is it worth getting menz powerlock or cg jetseal?

Did you read the thread? Pictures on page 3 and (very favorable) durability comments in some of the posts. Since 3M is paying you $2 after rebate (less a stamp and sales tax) to buy the product, it's definitely worth getting.
 
Thought I would post a quick review for those of you who like a bargain. I like to have at least 1 representative of each kind of sealant in my collection, and last winter I threw away my only "old skool" polyaminosiloxane sealant. The OP piqued my interest, so I headed to Big Lots and bought a bottle for $3. I also picked up an old fave of mine Turtle Wax Liquid Clay Bar, for $3 also. While the TWLCB fails miserably as a clay substitute, it is an excellent paint cleaner. I wanted to test the 3MPF on a very clean surface. Never used LCB as a wax stripper, so this was my opportunity. The white van is my test mule, and the hood was wearing two-week-old 476. The LCB easily stripped it to a smooth, squeaky clean surface. So, now I know LCB is not only a great paint cleaner, but also a great easy-to-use wax and silicone stripper. On to the 3MPF. It is a thick, tan liquid with polish-like consistency. I expected that a little would go a long way. I was wrong. Immediately upon application, this stuff disappears right into the paint! This is no "old skool" poly sealant. The application behavior is just like Optimum Polyseal. You have to look behind the buffer to see the faint trails to make sure there is enough product on the pad. PF smells like PS too, minus the banana overtones. Don't misunderstand, you don't need a lot of product, just more than I thought I would need. Worked in well with the PC, the product buffed off with ease and revealed a smooth, substantial, high-gloss, non greasy finish. Beading is equivalent to the collinites. If the durability is as others have said, and I have no reason to think it won't be, this product is a big winner! One poster mentioned that PF wasn't shiny. Looks pretty shiny to me. I returned to Big Lots the next day and bought their whole stock!
 
Has anyone used this 3M PF on glass? I was thinking of using it on the windshield as a Aquapel/RainX alternative since it is so cheap. I read in some threads that almost any sealant should be fine on glass so I wonder if anybody had experience with it and how should I clean the glass before applying? Degreaser? IPA? Windex?
 
This is not billed as an AIO, so, I suspect that it has similar cleaning properties to DG 105. Cleans just enough to bond well. To be honest, though, one coat of this is most likely all you will need. No need to layer, IMO. By the way, I have now used this with DG 601 underneath. It works! Such a deal for $3!
 
Hey guys i have a question for all of you who actually used the performance finish: Did you let it dry to a haze or just wipe on wipe off? i bought like 10 bottles and now im having second thoughts because i just wiped it on and wiped it off(fallowed the directions on back) on my black ford five hundred and it left stains(like wax that's been removed too fast). So im sticking to my gold class carnauba plus for now. BUT i can vouch for its durability..IT LASTS A LONG TIME(PF)!!

I let it dry for a couple of hours before wiping it off, and had no issues. I saw something on one site where it recommended a WOWO method with this product, but I haven't tried it that way.
 
SrD: I suspect the WOWO language is directed at Bubba, who slaps on half the bottle then forgets to remove and returns to it 2 days later. As long as you apply thinly and evenly, removal will not be a problem. I let it set 15-20 min and removal is a breeze. No streaking, either. Did you apply to clean paint?
 
yeah it was clean paint(dawn washed and clay bar was used as well). Ill try it again next week when i do my Jag and see how it goes..only this time im gonna leave it on there for a while.. thanks guys

I have layered it. x2 usually. A week between coats. I noticed an increase in depth on met silver - Nice and glossy.

I followed the directions on the packaged and did a panel at a time, let haze, and wipe off.

Initial slickness is not impressive, but as it cures, the slickness factor increases over 24 hours.

It's a really nice product.... Nice tight water beading.... rain just runs off.

Under ratd product imo.





You guys are lucky to have a Big lots and getting it cheap. I paid $15ea for my two bottles.

I plan to get the 32 ounce size when i'm out - if it's still around.



Unless someone wants to hook me up with some 3mpf from big lots ? lol



My winter combo x1= 3mpf and x2 = 476 or 845.



I wish someone would try it and see how it compares to PowerLock and BFWD.
 
I just bought 2 bottles of 3M PF, 2 of TW liquidclay (decent paint cleaner), 2 AA drying towels and 2 Meg's Versa angle brushes. I'm really excited to try the wax and drying towels out though :drool:
 
Alright, picked up 2 bottles and one of those Megs versa angle wheel brushes.



If anyone needs a proxy, my Big Lots had about 10 more bottles of Performance Finish left. We can work something out.
 
I applied some today. I am not a detailer and don't have a lot of experience with this stuff, but I found it very easy to use. I had an issue figuring out if I had applied enough (a technique issue on my part that has nothing to do with the product) and I think I used too much. It came off very easily.



Overall, it looks ok. I don't have an eye for this, so my car basically just looks clean to me. I didn't find the paint particularly "slick," but I didn't go rubbing all over my car either. One thing I can definitely say is that water is beading very nicely. It's storming out right now and the water is just standing right up.

I've used it on a few sets of wheels, with no issues. It's not as easy to use as my usual wheel product (Klasse SG), but then again, it costs a LOT less!
 
Yeah, I figured that it costs so little that it would be good to use on something like wheels. No use spending a lot of money to do what a cheap product will do.



I'm already thinking of buying 5 bottles to make sure of all of the rebates and using the product on anything I can think of.
