Big Blue Drying Towel...what gives with the sharp corners?

I just returned some MF towels to Griots because the towels have sharp corners. Unfortunately the new set they sent had the same problem. It seems they use some type of plastic coating on the binding thread at the corners.



Anyway I buy a Big Blue Drying Towel, based on recommendations, and they have the same problem!



I am starting to think all the MF poducts are made this way. Is it just me who sees a towel with sharp corners as a problem?

JB in Irvine- I too returned my Griot's MF's. They marred my XJS' paint even without letting the edges/corners touch.



After reading your post, I went out and checked my BBT's and my MFTech WW's. As you said, the thread used to serge them is pretty nasty stuff. That on my BBT's did, however, seem MUCH softer than that of the MFTech ones. As the BBT's have been machine washed NUMEROUS times, maybe it softens up after a while :nixweiss



At any rate, it's another reminder than we MUST be careful, even with WWMF's. I fold 'em over so the edges don't touch the paint. One could probably cut off the serging. Opinions/experiences vary as to subsequent unraveling when this is done to regular MF's and I haven't heard of anyone doing it to WW's yet. I'll let someone ELSE cut up theirs first

The sharp corners are cause by the machine that trims the excess fabric when they surge bind the edges. Depending on the batch, there can be heavy "melting" or none at all. So far, I've been pretty lucky. On two of my towels, I had to trim the edging to remove the melted thread.

Of course the Autopia "WAFFLE" towels won't have this problem, right David?

It's a batch, by batch issue. So far, the large towels I have sampled do not have this problem. The small towels have corners that have a meted thread or two. These thread ends should be clipped. I will include proper preparation information with the towels, such as how to properly remove the tag and clip the melted threads. It's just the nature of the beast.



I personally have not had any problems, and I have a black car with a finish that shows everything.
