Hi everyone,

Has anyone here installed bicycle hooks on their garage ceiling. I am currently figuring out how I am goin to store my bicycle at the same time saving floor space. I am considering installing bicycle hooks. Does anyone here have experience with hang your bicycle on the ceiling or know people who have? or does anyone have alternative means of storing???

Please leave a suggestion or opinion. :)

I use some sort of hooks. Work decent to my surprise. I wouldn't hang it over a car though. I don't trust hooks hanging 20lbs bikes. :P

I have a couple of racks that are mounted on the wall about 5 feet off the floor. You hook the front tire into the rack and the rear tire rests against the wall. Easier to remove or store the bikes than ceiling hooks, but it does take some floorspace.

You might want to check out the big online bike stores, Nashbar and Licktons. They have lots of options for bicycle storage.

When I lived w/my parents, we had several bikes hanging from the ceiling w/no problems. I now have this rack in my apartment, but it really wouldn't save any floor space if you are storing only one bike. When I was much younger, I also remember my father using some big 12" brackets permanently mounted to the wall that held the bike like my current rack.

I have the hooks in my garage. I put 2X4s that ran between two studs in the ceiling and then put the hooks into the 2x4s. I could hang a few sides of beef from them and I don't think they'd come off. Just make sure nobody is foolish enough to try and get a bike down when a car is under it.

Have to go with mdsmithers' recommended product. We've had the same type of hanger for over 12 years and its been great.

If they are kid bikes put the hooks or whatever storage as close to the door as you can. That way the kids don't have to go through the garage or move your stuff to get at theirs. I made a shelf just for the kids stuff just inside the door. It keeps them from wandering over to "my part" of the garage.

I have 3 bikes hanging on big hooks (one for front wheel and one for rear wheel) that just screw into the ceiling beams. They have been hanging over my car for 12 years with no problems. I really don't think there is that much pressure on the hooks since it is distributed between two for each bike. Sure does save a lot of space.

Yup, I have a couple of U shaped hooks. They are steel and one end is threaded like a screw, while the rest is covered in rubber. Works good for me.

I actually think it is something more like that than a U, with the first line being threaded.
