BHARE: Colorsand & Buff 2008 Dodge Charger SRT8

It was dry sprayed by a rookie painter for sure. Gotta be extremely careful when

tackling poor refinishes like these. Unless you know the shop/painter, the odds

are that only two coats of clear was applied. Sanding and polishing will remove

about a coat (or more) and will lead to premature failure. And on a "custom" job

like this, it can be very costly. The customer should be informed of this. Have him

sign a waiver to cover your back as well.

Also, when it's shot this poorly you can bet they used a low end clear too.

Not familiar with your term "dry sprayed"... What does that mean?

Well, it boils down to not having a clue on proper gun setting and technique.

(Poor paint atomization). Just as there is an optimum setting for your polisher,

pad and materials for a particular correction job, there are optimum settings

for paint guns for different paints and conditions.

If you saw a massively swirled correction job by some "paint correction specialist,"

then you can assume many things about this "specialist."

The owner of this SRT8 probably did some price shopping. And went with the lowest

quote. If he did his research then he would understand why a custom paint job

needs to cost a certain amount... If he actually paid for a "proper" custom paint

job and this is what he got then he's been had even more so. And a shop that

cuts so many corners - especially for a car like this - tells you quite a bit.

I wonder why your friend would even take delivery of the car from this hack shop? The so called shop that did this work should be shut down! That is a $40,000 car!

You have done a unbelievable job!

Great work Brian, nice to know there's another detailer around here that can do serious work.

Is that Makita an orbital? It looks like a rotary to me but you mentioned making "orbit" passes with it?

Josh:2thumbs:

Hello, I think he's referring to the Makita as being "orbital" and not "random orbital" like a PC. I hope this helps :-)

Great job!

That was nasty and you leveled it down really nice. Did you take a readings with a PTG to see how much clear you removed? Also did you do any wipedowns with straight IPA to see if the polishing product you use fills any?

Have you tried the newer 1500 trizact discs yet?

I did take readings before, during and after and still had over 12 mils showing on the reading when I was done. I also did do IPA wipe downs to make sure no filling was taking place. The Gloss-it polishes do not fill and what you see is what you get!

Yes, I was using the new 1500 Trizact discs on this job, I love them! Expensive but very worth the money.

12 mils? Wow that is thick...

Good to hear about the lack of fillers. I have had to do straight IPA wipedowns 3 times on some of the more popular polishes used by many on this site to show the reality.

I too prefer the trizact. Mirka 4000 is nice as well to finish off with.
