BFWD Over OCW...A Sealant over a wax? Will it stick?

I cannot seem to find my bottle of Opti-Seal.

I just polished my car and applied OCW 4 days ago. Still couldn't find Optiseal in that time so all I have in terms of longer durability is BFWD sealant.

I'm doing an ONR wash right now. So like, can I put a Selant (BFWD) over my Wax (OCW)? In the past I heard only waxes can top sealants with proper bonding but can it be vice versa?

Mystic, I don't know that this thought process has changed in recent years.

There's no reason you can't try a panel and see if it meets your expectation.  It may be obvious it the sealant is just smearing around the surface and not going to bond well.

I know i'll get alot of flack but i've done the forbiden so many times i can't count. I've washed mft in the washing mashine with regular detergent, i've used a black pad that i was using with a glaze and continued to use it with a wax or a sealant, heaven forbid, without washing it first. Just let me say i visit this site on a regular basis and i'm fascinated at the lengths everyone goes through for whatever reason to obtain whatever results, i'm not here to knock their process but i don't go to these extremes nor do i want to, to time consuming for me. I like to think we make more of it than what it is. I use sealants over waxes and vise versa. I don't give any thought, is it ok, will it bond, blah blah blah. My car, i think , would stand up to anyone, again i'm just sayin if this is what you gotta do to feel good so be it.Wash your pads in special stuff, use dedicated pads for certain products whatever, if thats what you want to do have at it. Again i hope no one takes any of this the wrong way i'm absolutely not knocking any of the knowledge i've learned on here it's just extreme at time, i'm only speaking for myself.

OCW is about as durable as Optiseal anyway. I'd do a strong wash before I out BFWD on top of OCW as BFWD has no cleaners or solvevts and there will be durability issues.

Thanks guys .i really appreciate the input. It seems like the Autopia members on the forums are a lot less interactive as compared to the older days when I first joined (around 2004). There were so many old school Autopia guys that would chime in for each post. But I digress.

Again thanks for your feedback guys!

mystickid- Eh, I just haven't used the BWFW, only their AFPP.  Closest I can come to contributing is that when using similar-to-BF UPP v1.0 it was pretty finicky about what it would bond to.

If in doubt, do a test spot and see what happens.  OCW just might be one of those "weird products" where the conventional wisdom doesn't apply; with all the different stuff out there now, it's tough to generalize these days.

If it were me, I would just maintain with OCW every other month after a wash.  Or better yet, use it every month as a drying aid during your wash process.  I absolutely love BFWD, still my favorite but coming during winter, I can't keep my car maintained that well enough.  I get 2 - 3 month durability out of OCW in my process.  The only thing for me is BFWD brings out my metallic flake more than OCW.  But they both will give you that glow and wet look.

If you really want to use BFWD now, I would use either a pre-wax cleaner or an AIO.  Durability will definitely be diminished and I don't think you are getting all the beauty out of BFWD on top of a wax.  What polish did you use?

I polished with a combination of 85RD and HD polish on white and black finishing pads. I was comparing the two in terms of looks and gloss as it was my first experience with HD Polish.

mystickid- How did those two Finising Polishes compare in your opinion?  After using those (*assuming* you stripped the oils from the Menzerna) I can understand your not wanting to use an AIO.

Oh, and when I had bonding issues (from sealants going over top of products they didn't like) it was pretty obvious- smearing and psuedo-hologram-type issues in certain lighting.

Thought- trying to be positive here, if the BFWD is like the BFAFPP, it'll work over top of the BF cleaner stuff.  That was kinda glaze-like, with come concealing agents in it, so *maybe* the BF isn't all that finicky after all.

But thought#2- how hard would it be to do a potent-mix wash and strip off the OCW?  I like OCW and all, been using it this year with no complaints, but it's not what I'd call a really protective, or long-lasting LSP.
