Best winter "coat" and application in the cold?

People here like to apply a few coats of SG (too much time in my opinion). Also, applying and removing can sometimes be challanging if you use too much (lots of posts on the subject). You have to let it sit, wait 12 hours before another coat, etc... With IW, slather one coat on, let dry and buff out.

Ofcourse, detailing is half the fun, but I feel in the cold, finishing with a coat of IW is easier and will last the winter. I just think it's easier in my opinion.

Sometimes I top with Blitz the next day - it adds more "pop" and a little more durability in the winter.

Ohhhh, now I see. Yes, that makes sense and makes for a much shorter project when the cold winds are blowing!

On the flip side, I know it's OK to use Klasse down to 40F. I wonder what a limit for IW would be? It's polyethylene-based and may be less suitable for application during cold weather. :nixweiss

Good info guys! Yes I may be doing these cars when its in the 30's outside. And both are daily drivers, so sitting isnt a great option. Would the collinite pastes be as "easy" to work with as the IW?

Hhhmmm, good question. I used it in 40 - 45 degree weather last weekend with zero ill affects. However, I keep it inside before I use it, and then shake it up real well so it is "runny."

In the summer, I leave my Blitz or 3M show car paste wax in the sun so it is soft and "creamy" enough to nicely coat the applicator but not "mushy" so it globs on. It's a ittle trick I use. If, there is no sun and it's hard, i spritz a non carnuba QD in the tub and massage with the applicator - leads to a uniform application.

Triple "NO!" :D

That stuff is a beast to buff out if you use too much. IW is the all around easiest to work with.

Just a tip: stay away from the Marquis and use the 476s if you want a paste wax. It's cheaper and looks the same!

Agreed. The "other" Collinite waxes are some of the most difficult products I have ever had to remove... ...real dinosaurs in a modern world filled with excellent alternatives.

nothing beats the final polish i use for winterizing. It last forever and will hold up all winter.

Many people here will agree with me

NY Detailer, what is the final polish you use?

So would 2 coats of IW offer the same protection (or better) than 1 coat of Collinite paste? Im all for easy application for the daily drivers!
