Best winter "coat" and application in the cold?

Hello all, Im a newbie here. Im looking for adviceon a product that will last the entire winter (if possible) for my wifes car and my winter car. Michigan winters can be rough! I'm looking for a product thatwill last all winter, and not cost a fortune or take days to apply. Also something that can fill minor swirls as it protects would be great. The cars are a teal 02 Gran Prix (wifes) and a red, 91 Civic Si (my winter car).

On another note, I just bought a new, red SVT Lightning pickup which unfortunately will also be sitting outside this winter. Although it wont be driven in the snow, or nastyness. My real "toys" (93 Lightning and 91 Mustang GT) take up my 2.5 car garage. What would be a good gloss / protector product to use on it for the winter? Something that will last the winter sitting out, but be able to be removed in spring. Im thinking of either Zaino, Klasse or "Moose" in the spring for this truck.

TIA

Many favorites among here for durability are Collinite, Klasse, and Zaino. Do some searches for these as well as terms like Swirls for answers to those questions.

I have done searchs on here and other forums and am confused. There is just so much these days! I used to detail professionally, but its been about 7 years and theere are alot of new products on the market. I think Ill either try collonite, or Klasse.

With Klasse, do you have to use the SG for best protection? How many coats of either are required for 6 months of protection?

After some more "research", seems I might give the collinite a try. But after reading their site, Im still confused? Seems everyone uses the insulator wax on here. But the Marque d' elegance wax says its the longest lasting, but the super Double Coat says it will last 1 full year and is detergant proof (how would you strip it off the car if you wanted to then?). NAd the Saphire paste wax says it cleans, glazes and protects in one step. So which is best when looking for a compromise of good gloss and protection?

Also is the paste alot harder to work with? The last paste I used was Meguires yellow. It was pretty easy to work with, but had alot of dust and white residue.

lightning, im using the klasse twins for the winter, and they are imo the best protection so far this year. Last year i had bf2 on there, and it held up even with the harsh salt. Collinite is decent, but i find it to be a bear to wipe off if kept on long, but it lasts a good while for a carnauba wax. Imo, use a polymer, as winters up here suck bc of all the salt.

Thanks. I might be showing my ignorance, but what is bf2? So you think the Klasse system will last longer then the collinite?

This is the longer lasting one;)

yeah, being that the klasse system involves acrylics, which are durable as heck and look fantastic on most(if not all) finishes. My advice is to apply aio twice before wiping on the sg coat, and maybe add another sg coat after a day or two of letting the first sg coat cure.

Oh, and bf2, thats blackfire all finish paint protection.

Thanks Hondaguy! Any collinite user, can you say how long a coat lasted you in winter time? Same for Klasse? It's just that I hate spending time on the wifes car and the daily driver when I could be spending time on my toys!

1Z Glanz Wax is the only thing i use on my '01 Lightning. i last waxed on July 4th and since then i've only washed and QD'd. still beads like a champ. not sure how well the glanz holds up to snow and salt and all, but i've had it last up to 8 months with only 5 washes in that time frame down here in the good old south. sat out 24/7 too. this was on my mom's camry not my lightning; i could never go that long without waxing it.

Under ideal conditions Collinite Paste will last almost 1 year. The Insulator will last 7-8 months. In the real world I would cut the lasting time in half. That would still be great for a carnuba. Your results may vary.

Another thread, someone posted about using the AIO and then the collinite over it. Do you think that would last even longer than straight Collonite, or Striaght Klasse?

klasse will last longer than collinite imo, but some ppl have diff experiences. If you want, you can top the klasse system with collinite(as long as the collinite wax you use has no cleaners in it, so forget the insulator wax), but imo, if you have say 2 coats of sg, youll be fine for the winter as long as you rinse off your car frequently when you get salt on it. Either way, make sure you rinse that salt off as quickly as possible.

That might be OK. The Insulator Wax has no cleaners and is NOT a one-step product. You must "perfect" your surface prior to Insulator Wax application. I have spoken at length with the guys who own Collinite. The IW is their most popular product by far and it has given them their reputation.

I have used their products for nearly 20 years. It's a worthy contender to the Klasse durability but I would give the edge to Klasse in terms of durability and final appearance.

I have a few of the other Collinite products. They are a true workout and I don't enjoy using them so I don't. Their paint "pre-cleaner" is brutal...kind of like #100 sandpaper.

The IW is fairly easy to work and durability is quite good. I use the stuff on my daily driver and it holds up as well or better than anything else I've sampled. I don't use the IW on my "better" cars since I prefer the carnauba look and ease of application. BTW, the carnauba content of the IW is negligible.

I'll make a broad statement and say if you already own the Klasse twins, you don't need to spend $$ on the Collinite IW....stick with the Klasse.
