Best/Safest Tire Gel?

I'm looking for a good quality tire gel

After some research it seems like the Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel gets a lot of vote

I'm wondering if the above tire gel is water based?

Or do you guys have any other water-based recommendations for tire gels?

Thanks a lot!

Waterbased gel, my vote goes to Poorboys Bold N Brite. But I think Mother's FX (a liquid) is the best looking and longest lasting water based product. Optibond is decent if you like more of a clean tire look.

....never had much luck with the gels/thick dressings I have tried. I like Duragloss 253 and have always used 303 Aerospace Protectant as a standby, but I picked up a gallon of Meguiars Hyper Dressing a few weeks ago and have been pretty happy with that. I prefer a matte or "like new" appearance so I'm currently experimenting with Meguiars max recommended dilution of HD (4:1 IIRC).

As far as what the OP means by "safe" (and considering his mention of water-based), I'm guessing he means a product that won't cause long-term damage to the tire? I guess I typically never kept a set long enough on one of my vehicles that it would make much of a difference anyhow

Huh...I have *lots* of pretty old tires (including the oe ones that came on my '85 Jag) and the qustion of a dressing causing damage still never occurred to me.

Opti-Bond. I prefer the natural look so I cut it 1:1 and use a spray bottle.

Is Opti-Bond the brand or the tire gel name under another brand name?

Eh, my choice (Z16) is water-based, but it's sure not a gel.

Is it sprayable liquid?

Reyo- OK, I gotta ask...what do you mean by "safest" in the thread title?

Yeah, I'm just worried the solvent-based tire shines have too much chemicals in them that can harden the rubber compound over time...just want to play it safe....also would water-based be less harmful to skin?

I like the concentration of product that PERL offers. Its been quite a while since I bought it and I still have plenty left.

Never tried it that way, but I bet it'd work OK. The Z16 is about as thin as skim milk.

I've never noticed any problems from the Z16, it seems like pretty innocuous stuff. Not that I really know for certain... :nixweiss

.

I always have perferred to apply a coat of a water borne tire dressing with a sponge right after washing. Not getting it on perfect, just a layer.

Then do all the other processes and the last is to apply, with a sponge, another coat of the dressing. That "builds" it on the tire without creating streaks or excessive build up, provides a nice, satin shine. And when doing the last coat, the product and sponge remove any splatter from the tire, plus I don't have to spend time trying to get excess dressing off the wheels or body work.

Plus use 80% less dressing as it's going on the tire, not the wheels, not the body, not the ground or other places where it could draw dust and dirt.

Amino functional water borne tire dressing are not toxic, just don't drink it.

My favorites: Poorboys Bold n Bright Gel (has some cleaning ability), Mothers Reflections Tire Care, Optimum Opti-Bond. They are all water based.

Gary, is yours $35 for 16 ounces?

Generally gels are solvent based which tend to be a pain to clean off. If you're looking for an extremely thick water based product you gotta check out 3D's Ultra Protectant THICK. The stuff is like whale sperm mixed with mollasses.

Beth told me the new ValuGard.net website is now up and running.

She said that she put a link on it for those stock reduction specials as well.

So, I guess now, everyone can get the deals I sent you.
