Best QD before/after Optimum Opti-Seal?

Low Tech

Hi, gang! I did a lot of searches before posting. After reading so many wonderful things, I just received Opti-seal. Applied 2 coats tonight. Will post impressions tomorrow.

Going forward, what is the best QD to use over Optimum Opti-Seal? Or will all the usual suspects work well (PCM, 425, Sonus Spritzes...)?

While I'm on the topic, if I want to add more layers, what QD would you use before applying the new coats?

I also assuming Opti-seal plays well over Danase WetGlaze and/or Souveran, soI can make a layer "sandwich" in the future.... Correct?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try. Never used Zaino products in the past (thought it was too time consuming and the naming conventions were hard to follow for a simpleton like me!)

The Opti-Seal was AMAZING! Easy to apply. It's been what I've been looking for. Looks even better after 12 hrs cure.

I think I'll stick with it for a while, hence my question on go-forward QD for OS.

Perhaps I'll post pics if I get the chance.

Tried pics, but cell phone pics don't do the Opti-Seal justice. Suffice it to say, it looks awesome on black.

I'd like to keep it that way w/ QD, and then apply the OS about twice a month... But, OS is so easy to apply, I just might use it weekly... In any event, I look forward to trying the Z-8.

Funny how Optimum does not seem to offer a QD to complement the OS....:nixweiss

The ONR is a great QD for the OOS if you mix it slightly stronger than the recommended dilution.

Z8 is not a QD, but a spray sealant, so you will establish basically two different sealant layers. If you want to use a QD, then use 425 or any similar fully synthetic QD (but I'd use 425). If you want to use a spray type sealant/wax product then wait for the new OCW... It's gonna be killer stuff.

Thanks, Bence - I read further on Z-8 and you are right, it would be a mix-n-match approach. (Although it may well give very good results over OS.) I'm pleased w/ OS as it is, so I don't want to muddle the concoction. Plus, I have no Zaino prods currently, so I might try Z-8 in the future if I'm can't preserve the look.

(Aside: I already have have KAIO + KSGx2 + DWG + KSGx2 + Souveranx2... The OS just made all the difference - In the future I may just do OPS + DWG + OS.)

Point well taken about using a synthetic (no carnauba) QD. It makes intuitive sense. I use 425 currently and am pleased with it after it cures a bit - 425 seems to look even better overnight.

So, unless another member with OS experience has a silver bullet, I'l probably stick w/ 425...

I second Bence's recommendation to use ONR at QD strength, which is 6 oz per gallon of water. The new OCW is great but it really isn't a true QD and has no cleaning properties.

reason I say Z8 is because I use it over my OS on my wheels and makes a noticible positive diff when applied.

I agree it is a spray sealant but imo it is still the best out there

Scott - Thanks - ONR with cleaning/lubricity would fulfill the basic requirements for a QD. Plus, from the descriptions, its polymers would likely be complimentary to OOS. When I get back in town, I'm gonna add it to my arsenal.

P.S. I really respect your knowledge. Your posts over the years have helped me (and countless others, I'm sure) tremendously. I'm grateful for your contributions.

Diesel - You just may have given me the keys to the kingdom in my never-ending war against brake dust! Alternating layers of OOS/Z8 on my wheels!

When you say "positive difference," do you mean is it appearance-wise only? Or are you alse referring to shedding dust, easy cleanup, and durability? Thanks again, Deisel, for taking the time to guide me...

all of the above i use it once a week after a wash and the wheels are much wetter and slicker and i have no problem removing brake dust when washing

I also find there is hradly any dust on the wheels cause it just not stick.

no problem we are all here to help, also dont worry about price i have had my bottle of z8 for a year now and it is still half full. i take some out and put it in a small spritz type bottle and use one spray per wheel

On your recommendation, I'm gonna try the Z-8, too, then! (I have a ton of products, and half the fun for me is trying something new...)

Also got this reply from the Optimum forum:

I use Hi-Temps QD for all my cars finished with OptiSeal, PoliSeal or OCW. It's just as good as any overly high priced QD but costs a lot less. Works great, smells great and leaves a nice slick finish. I'm not sure I would use an acrylic QD though on top of OptiSeal....I'm thinking that may cause some issues.....maybe.

Did a search, and could not find anything on Hi-Temps QD...
