Best Product Selection for a Black vehicle

I am still reading up on these various post to try to make sure I use the right and best product when using my new CP 7336 on my black 2002 Honda CRV.

The finish is overall in great shape so it doesn't seem to really need any type of cleaning. Therefore, I am thinking of starting with one of the following type of products:

- Menzerna Final Polish II, Meguiar's No. 9 Swirl Remover, or SSR1

Then follow it with either:

- Meguiar’s No. 7 Show Car Glaze or Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze

and finishing it with Meguiars NXT or Menzerna FMJ

Finally, how do you really know if you need to use any type of cleaner? Given what appears to be in need of just a polish/swirl remover, I would hate to use a cleaner on it if it really isn't necessary.
 
To see if your finish is real clean after washing take a plastic sandwich bag and put in on your hand plam side down rub gently over the surface. If it feels bumpy you should then clay the car. I always clay my cars before detailing for the first ittime.
After I would use SSR1 for swrail removal and then move to P-w-C you can then go to paste wax or EX. I drive a black car and that is what I have done.
 
Any need to start with SSR2.5 or SSR2 do you think?

Also, what is P-w-C?

Poorboy's Polish with Carnuba - like AIO on steriods!!

I have had great results on Black with FPII then Glaze then FMJ - a great trio on black and the FMJ is bullit proof!! :lol
 
Hmmmm...so did you start with FPII or the Intensive Polish first?

With the FPII, what pad did you use?

So FMJ outshines PP Polish w/Carnuba on black finishes?

Just trying to decide if I really need SSR2 or IP to start with as the finish is in rather good shape, just some minor swirls and fine scratches which I think FPII should take care; what do you think?

Update:

I am a believer in my new Porter Cable!

This weekend I did the following:

Step 1: Menzerna Final Polish II with a white pad at speed 3-1/2
Step 2: Meguiar’s No. 7 Show Car Glaze with a black pad at speed 3-1/2
Step 3: Meguiars NXT with a red pad at speed 3-1/2

Problem:

The vehicle is a black 2002 Honda CRV and after finishing steps 1-3, it looks great, but I still have swrils.

Would 3M Perfect-It Fine Cut Compound with a white pad or Meguiar's No. 9 Swirl Remover with a white pad take care of the swirls or should I try repeating Step 1, but setting the Porter Cable at 4-1/2 and 5 speed or any other suggestions?

I just finished preliminary Autumn workup on my black Santa Fe.
Meg's #80 Speed Glaze on the horizontal "reflective" surfaces with a polishing pad at 5.5 on my PC. Next, AIO by hand on the entire vehicle. Looking pretty good at this point! A day passes with a drive in the rain. A local $3.00 car wash (I know. I'm 71 years old today and I "don't do washes.")

Today, after the wash I put a coat of NXT by hand on the car. I took my time (These days I have to.) and let the "wax" set for over 30 minuites. The car looks terrific. I'll put another coat of NXT tomorrow, weather permitting.
 
This is a black Acura that actually has blue metallic flakes in the paint. It had very minor swirls and marring. I decided to only touch it with Hi-Temps Midnight express. It is a one-step polish/sealant. I applied it with my cyclo and green pads.
 
If you're taking the menzerna route, follow the steps in the car kit. The only thing missing is a bottle of IP to remove the med to heavy scratches. Top it off with FMJ x 2. Takes some time and work, but you'll be stunned by the results. I haven't found anything that comes close to to results you'll achieve.

A close second place, and much easier process (IMO) is to use the poorboy'
s line. SSR2.5, PwC, and top with EX or EX-P. Some like EX better on black, I prefer the look of EX-P -your call.

Thought I would throw my $.02 in here.

I have had great results with Poorboy's products. I have an black Accord that was driven by a travelling salesman befor I bought it, so it had lots of imperfections to fret about.

After experimenting with the Klasse twins (not much success with these) I went to SSR3, followed by SSR1, EX and EXP x 2. Car looks terrific. Have just put on another layer of EXP for the winter.

I think I am going to stick with PB products.
 
If what you are already applying is not working on the swirls, I would try Menzerna Intensive Polish or something even more aggressive, and then go back over it with your three steps. In my opinion, three steps is not necessary if you are using the correct products and application techniques. The swirls need to be leveled out, and the paint needs to be polished and protected. I already recommended Hi-Temp's Midnight express. Trust me, this is a great product, and takes care of two steps at once.
 
I assume what I have used so far has been used correctly, but I am wondering if increasing the speed from 3-1/2 to 4 or 5 would make much difference when using the Menzerna Final Polish II?
